More cube-cut Capstan Blue in my Big Ben Ranger. (No picture this time, but you get 1000 words instead...)

My "Virginia education" continues... I am to the point where I can avoid burning my tongue outright, but I often singe it in a more gradual way that I don't notice at first. I tend to stick the tip of my tongue directly in the path of the smoke coming out of the button, probably for the same reason that a dog sticks its head out the window of a moving car and looks forward. I get a few good blasts of sweetness and other basic flavors that way, but then it stops working and I start smoking harder.

With today's bowl, I'm making more of a conscious effort to keep my tongue out of the way, especially during relights. And I'm re-training myself to taste the smoke more... ambiently.

It's like being a Buddhist monk in training, trying to clear the mind and focus on the subtleties and getting thwacked with a cane when you screw up. :ROFLMAO:

Smoking a bowl of 2022 Ennerdale in a late 19th century meerschaum 'cutty' pipe with amberine stem and later shank repair of an indeterminate age. Looking at the banding on the shank it might be what was called Britannia Metal which was very popular for making cutlery as well as fake shillings and half crowns!

@condorlover1 I've smoked some Ennerdale Flake in my clay pipes; my local tobacconist sells it loose saving on plastic packaging. I've been shortlisted for the Radio Sheffield Make A Difference Award and will be going to the awards ceremony & presentation in Sheffield this coming weekend. Fingers crossed!

Smoking a few slices of 'The Little Brick of Death' aka 1970s War Horse Plug in a no name small meerschaum 'cutty' pipe circa 1910. You'll have to use your imagination and visualize since I am on conference call with the firms most annoying and time consuming client!
@condorlover1 I've got a block of 2015 War Horse Green to smoke in my clay pipes; is this one of your blends from your days as a tobacco blender? Thanks @simong!

As an illustration of my good judgment, I loaded up another bowl of a Virginia blend next. 🙃 This time, a sample of Watch City Rouxgaroux, part of a very generous package from @Streeper541, in my Peterson 80s:

I knew from the hints of "stinky feet" in the baggie that I was in for a treat! More immediately sweet and tasty than the Capstan. Perhaps I'm just more of a VaPer guy? Or maybe I prefer reds to brights? I still have to be careful with this one, though -- I can tell it wants to nip my tongue if given a chance.

Half way through this bowl of Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation Evening Flake in a smooth medium bend 2021 Peterson Ebony POTY 4AB No. 422/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. A very late lunch follows this smoke.
