As the sun goes down and the first snow of the season begins to fall here in Minnesota, I'm out on a walk smoking my faithful Country Gentleman cob and trying Lane 1-Q for the very first time. It's a bit light and sweet for my tastes, but I can definitely see why so many people like this one. What it lacks in body and Vitamin N it makes up for in agreeableness and ease of smoking. It's totally inoffensive and rather pleasant in it's own way, just not quite my sort of tobacco I don't think.
On the plus side, it did give me one of those, "Ah ha, so that's what my grandpa used to smoke!" moments. I think what he smoked was a bit more bold in the flavor department (based on the occasional puffs I used to sneak from his pipes here and there as a youngin) but it was extremely similar in taste and aroma, so I'm guessing he smoked Lane RLP-6. I do have a sample of RLP-6 jarred up that I still need to try, so I'll have to give it a go later tonight to see if my guess was right.
