Another bowl in this new Savinelli. Some C&D Winchester this time.
Well, it was bound to happen sometime this fall ...
I forgot to set the coffee pot last night, so I stirred up a cup of instant Nescafé Classico with sugar and Cremora. The Stanwell Royal Guard 86 was looking a little neglected, so I packed a bowl of Paladin Black Cherry. Believe it or not, it was a perfect start.
Then things got twisted. I started thinking about how the Paladin was going to leave a ghost for the next bowl, so I dug up this:
That’s an old pouch of Middleton Apple, all right! Thanks to Mylar, the contents of the pouch still have some moisture, and still smell something like farm market cider and a cinnamon stick. I made more instant coffee and lighted up. Yep ... sweet and bitey as I remember ... (If it’s your thing, both the above have a very pleasant room note.)
Fast forward a few hours, with this poor Stanwell good and properly ghosted, I decided to pull out a favorite I usually mix with OTCs or add as a condiment.
Cornell and Diehl Gentleman Caller. I don’t taste either the black cherry candy or the apple cider yet, but these aromas are putting me in a time traveling mood. The TV is off, the AirPods are in, and I’m about to start up a playlist that begins with “My Sweetheart” by Focus.

Enjoyed a tasty peach, and am about a quarter of a bowl left of Sutliff Prince Andrew in a 1980s straight smooth Big Ben pot with a nickel band and a black vulcanite saddle stem. Did a long set of walks, fed the outdoor cats, and I get to relax now. Ice water and bergs is my drink.
Heck yeah. Gentleman Caller is a favorite morning smoke of mine, but it will definitely leave a deertongue ghost. Never really listened to Focus, but I heard “Hocus Pocus” once, and thought I’d have to be under the influence of something to want to listen to it again. ? I’ll have to go find “My Sweetheart” on YouTube I guess.
