@Backwoods Briar Is that a Markus Fohr / Old German Clay?
It looks like @Chaukisch's before he broke it and wrapped the twine around it.
I've never had a black clay but I've seen them on the Smokingpipes.com website.

Did a second set of walking reps in the dark, and am close to finishing this bowl of year 2016 D&R Two Timer Gold in a 1982 smooth straight Sasieni Ivory 105 Apple with a black vulcanite saddle stem.
Now smoking year 2013 Capstan Blue in a straight 1924 Dunhill’s “Shell Briar” patent pot 7 with a tapered black vulcanite stem.
Not usually an aro guy, but received this tin as a gift- great room note - perfect in this 2022 Christmas XL90! I can actually taste some tobacco here, so a pleasant change indeed.

Nice! I’ve grown very partial to the 68s - seem pretty similar, just feel right.

Now smoking Peretti Royal in a black sandblasted medium bend 2013 Mark Tinsky Coral 5 cherrywood with a smooth dark brown shank and bottom with a tapered black briar accented acrylic stem. First time smoking this pipe that a dear friend gave me. Haven't smoked this blend in a long time either. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

I snapped this pic before the weather arrived and it’s turned bad. Hail, sleet and snow in a massive front that’s blown up from Antarctica. Winds blowing 65 and gusting 90kmh with current temp sitting at 0.5C/32F if my calcs are right.
I was smoking some GLP Virginia cream in the Sav 320 but it just got to hard. Sitting in front of the fire now warming back up.

Going to have Peterson Nightcap in a Meerschaum lined Peterson Kapmeer 80s Bulldog P-Lip—although Kapmeer pipes first appear in the Peterson catalogue in 1968, this is probably circa early ’60s, as it’s stamped “MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN”—the London factory closed its doors in 1962.
