Currently smoking some 3P's from one of the two mysterious unmarked beauties I got on eBay over a year ago. This pipe, and the other I got, came from a single estate of around ~12 homemade pipes. I saw all of them, and they were all strikingly beautiful. Quality briar, no fills, all straight grain, nicely stained, and very well carved... and not a single mark or stamp anywhere on them. I don't know who made them, if the guy was a professional pipemaker or if it was just a hobby for him... but they've become 2 of my favorite pipes since then. On top of everything, they're great smokers too. I wish I could have bought the whole lot.
The first pic with the green stem is the original auction picture. The second pic I just took, the stem is black after cleaning.

I wonder how long the original owner smoked it, and how many people smoked before me?
I always wonder the same thing with estate pipes... especially very old ones. It could have been someone's favorite pipe; or played an important part in some aspect of their life. It also makes me realize that we're just temporary custodians of "our" pipes for a short time.

Did a set of walking reps, and am just passing the half way mark on this bowl of aged Rattrays Hal O’ The Wynd in a straight smooth brown pre-1952 (Comoy’s) Corinthian De-Luxe 126 pot made for Sutliff in San Francisco with a black tapered vulcanite stem.
