Chasing Embers is a super cool name.
Shawnee I recall as being one of the tribes in PA, where I'm from.

Shawnee are an Algonquin people. One of the interesting things about that is it seems based on DNA studies that the Algonquins commonly have Haplogroup R1, and it's common across Canada and the northern US regions bordering Canada. A theory that I find credible goes that they are from Natives who came across the Bering Land Bridge from Siberia. Meanwhile, the Indo-Europeans came to India and Europe from Siberia and have Haplogroup R1. So it seems to me that Indo-Europeans and Algonquins are actually long lost brothers. Of course, we can say that about all of humanity in a way.

It's nice writing to you, Chasing Embers. :) puffy ☮️🕊️🪶🔥🪨🦅
I find all of this heritage very interesting and delightful to say the least. Most of us are of mixed heritage, "mutts," my Uncle used to call us. I've said that I'm half English, and the other half is Polish. Going one step further, my Polish half is half Polish and half Mongol, Cossack specifically. If you look carefully at my avatar picture, I have hooded eyes, very noticeable in real life. A lot of Poles do - a product of the nomadic migration across the Steppes. The Cossacks were nomadic horsemen. This heritage is why we were decisive in the battle of Lepanto, and Poland still has the finest existing and employable cavalry in Europe. :)

Happy Thanksgiving online piping friends!! My son who got me this pipe is currently serving in the Army and he is over in Poland til February. Missing him this year. For my American friends, remember those serving in the military who cannot celebrate with their family and loved ones today!
I spent 3 Thanksgivings away from family = 1 at Ft Lee (VA) & 2 in (then) West Germany.
Not sure what's available for your son, but I will say that the US Army Mess Halls always served excellent Thanksgiving Day feasts (!!!). No complaints came from me.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, haddock and sugar snap peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm smoking C&D Palmetto Balkan 2024 (Small Batch) in a full bend black pebble finish 2001 Rinaldo Lithos YY8 Titania Silver Line egg with a tapered black acrylic stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink.

The name Chasing Embers is actually the name gifted to me by my maternal grandmother, my birthday name is Duane. I'm part Scots-Irish and Native.
I live very nearby to a historical marker designating the assumed burial site, (I think the exact spot is unknown) of the Shawnee prophet Tenskwatawa, brother to Tecumseh. I am myself a citizen of Cherokee nation of Oklahoma through my father’s side. That lineage being the result of intermarriage between Cherokees and Scottish traders who had been indentured and deported to the colonies for supporting the Jacobite rebellion.

SOB (!) ... now down to final hours of Nov. Oct such an awesome month, but Nov even more my favorite month.
Totally not understandable to family (don't ask).
Summer (June, July, Aug) gone, now Fall Autumn (Sept, Oct, Nov) nearly gone. (SOB again!) So much greatness during Nov = Veteran's Day, the Election (!), Thanksgiving ... Nov a prelude to MN Winter.
Excellent steaming hot turkey stew on the stove, some Canadian Whisky with couple ice cubes alongside, and a Canadian pipe with a nice parfait ready to greet the final 3 hours of Nov.
Parfait = top 1/3 (Balkan Supreme), bottom 2/3 (Mac Baren Roll Cake).
Hmm, thinking life could be worse (???).
