Got back a bit early and caught up on my emoticoning and comments before this post. Had one afternoon smoke. Wanted a change from the current break-in proceedures, and settled down with my fully ready to go Little Pete, and one of it's designated tobaccos (this pipe loves Balkan style tobaccos with lat, and so do I so that's what it gets fed.) Magnum Opus. This was the best smoke I've had since recent and disappearing taste problems due to my infected ear canals.

Just finished the second, and last, smoke of this evening, the third and final dose of Borkum Riff Dark Cavendish in my Mr Brog Nosewarmer, which is of course the lower pipe in the picture.




As a comment on the pipe itself, I'm extremely happy that I waited to the end of my pipe buying spree to get a nosewarmer. I don't consider it a beginners pipe at all. They must be smoked very slowly, and I did not have the skills for this until recently. This is a fantastic smoking pipe, and I'm thrilled to add it to the rotation. More on this tomorrow, but I'm going to exit stage left now, and return in the morning.

I'm assuming, from the description, this pipe is Russian.
I just asked a question Tue night at Pipe Club if anybody knows anything about the pipe industry in Poland. I'd like to learn more about pipe history in Poland, Russia & other for Soviet bloc countries. Lots of info on British, French, Italian pipe industry & history but haven't ever seen much on other countries. (???)

It may be common knowledge around these parts, but I recently learned you could chew rope tobacco!

As a result, on the menu at Disneyland is a nice chunk of GH&Co Whiskey Twist loaded in my mouth while at Disneyland with my wife and kids.

Picked up a Stihl HTA 50 electric pole saw today, to make more use of the batteries that came with the electric whizzer we "moved up" to last month. I love this thing!

Thank you. The Dr. Grabow Royalton Bulldog is considered by some a crowning achievement for Grabow. Unfortunately, they no longer make this pipe. Of all the Royaltons, it was the most sought after. I had just ridden 200 miles through the Mohave Desert - one stretch is over 100 miles with no gas stations. Exhausted by the 100+ heat, I plopped down on the sofa in Laughlin for a White Russian and a smoke of this pipe.

Sorry. Every time I think White Russian….

Passing the last third of this bowl of year 2020 Peretti Blend W in a full bent black sandblasted post-WWII (Comoy’s) Gresham Magnum 816 cavalier with a tapered black vulcanite stem and bottom cap. Been watching the Nats-Giants game and smoking a pipe this size is fitting for relaxation. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Fed my cats, Daisy the Feral Princess, and Tomato the Brave. I'll feed Harry the Hairy once they've finished. No Abner the Eager tonight.

1st is a Soren Erik Andersen(SEA)/Karsten Tarp number with a vulcanite stem and walrus tooth accent.

Sadly SEA passed away in 2020.
Some 20 unfinished pipes and stummels were found in his workshop and sent to Karsten Tarp to be finished

Did a little low calorie snacking, and am half way through this bowl of year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a very much appreciated 1979 brown, slight bend grain etched flat front Stanwell Rego 969-48 (09) with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Time to read baseball box scores.

Now smoking unreleased 2021 Sutliff Virginia Flake in a 1970s smooth medium bend Stanwell Registered 969-48 Design Choice 837 military mount sitter with a black vulcanite saddle stem and ferrule. It was designed by Sixten Ivarsson. I haven't smoked this pipe in a long time, but it was heavily in use during the 1980s-90s. Excellent smoker.

Just a question here, and to make it "legitimate" I'm just about to light up a Phillies Blunt Plain, and had a pleasant bowl of Pirate Kake a few hours earlier in my Falcon Standard with the Bantam Bowl. Safe smoke -tastes fine and is easy on the tongue, and is a good choice for whatever it is I'm at the tail end of, he said hopefully. Can't seem to get into moderation so I continue in wretched excess..

Real subject I want some feedback on. Spent the last of my tax rebate on a couple of tins of Savinelli 140th Anniversary tobacco, dated 2022. Not that prudent, but the money was burning a hole in my pocket. Coming probably this week. I read the profile and it seemed to me to be a tobacco that I'd enjoy.

What's your take on this aquisition if you've smoked it? Thanks.

I’m way behind on reading the posts in this May WAYS thread (only up to May 5th at present). I fell behind having to deal with moving boxes around the house to make room for the electricians to complete the wiring in our house, plus laying out and creating art for the next issue of Weird Tales Magazine.

To answer your question: I stockpiled a good amount of Savinelli 140° and have at least one pipe dedicated to it. It’s a wonderful, delicate blend with a good amount of complexity; the wild flowers make it unique in my experience. I love it.

You’ll have already received your tins when you read my post, but I look forward to seeing what you think as I work my way through this thread.

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and have passed the quarter mark of this bowl of year 2012 Butera Pelican in a 1970s slight bend black sandblasted English Rustic 120S Billiard (Comoy’s second) with a black vulcanite saddle stem. This pipe originally belonged to my college art mentor, the late professor Walter Barker. Never got to read box scores, so I'll do it after I post this smoke.
