***What Are You Smoking, May 2025?***

Well, today is a special day for me. If my dad were still living, he would be 98 years old today. Sadly, we lost him in 2014.
I do have the old 1950's era Medico pipe that he smoked when I was just a small child. It was in pretty rough shape and broken so I had it repaired and restored a few years back. Today.... on his birthday.... I am smoking it for the very first time.
I wanted to do it just like he did so I went old school. I am smoking Sir Walter Raleigh, which is all he ever smoked and I am lighting it with matches and the "tamper" is my index finger. Assisting me in this endeavor, is a Diet Coke. Finally, I reamed it out with my pocket knife. All of these things were the methods that he used. He did have a cool pipe stand that is shown in some of the photos below. He was in the U. S. Army and one of the photos below shows him wearing a hooded, water-proof coat while crossing the Atlantic aboard a ship, near the end of WWII.
Happy Birthday, Dad..... we sure miss you.

Passing the quarter mark of this bowl of year 2024 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Fed all the cats except for the absent Abner the Eager. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

My dad turned 95 last month, and my whole pipe journey started by rescuing his pipes when I was out taking care of him a few years ago.
They were a fixture in his office and on weekends until I was in my teens. Most aren’t my preferred style/size, but will always be (and be used) in my collection.

Second bowl of the day is my first bowl of Seattle pipe club’s plum pudding special reserve. Not sure I enjoy the process of preparing plug tobacco. I am however enjoying the flavor. I packed it in my Chacom.

WCC Off the Rails in a Larry Roush

As I've been working on my slow smoking techniques, this type of pipe has become increasingly attractive to me - shorter length, large bowl with lots of wood and a smallish inner bowl chamber, which keeps the smoke length within reason. This is a particularly bold and good looking pipe, one of the nicest of it's type I've seen.

Next time you post a shot of this pipe, how about a side shot? I'd love to see it's silhouette.

NB - sorry about this . . . . it is a duplicate/edit of a post above I had to redo because, for whatever reason, this one disappeared before I could finish it and had to start again. Probably pressed a key on the keyboard I shouldn't have. . . .

I know I don't have to tell you this, but for all of you out there who still have your parents with you, cherish each and every day and tell them that you love them.........

Almost finished smoking year 2000 SWRA in a straight, black sandblasted pre-1970 Comoy’s Sunrise Etched Grain straight apple 551 with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Not walking today due to a stiff back. M'lady went out to run an errand and she saw Abner the Eager under my car. She brought him in to eat, and he just got off my lap after enjoying some attention. Watching the Braves-Red Sox game.
