Last smoke of the day is Wilke No. 515 in a smooth dark medium bend 2021 Peterson Heritage Brown POTY 4AB No. 45/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. This was the original 515 that Basil Rathbone smoked. Everybody ate except for the absent Abner the Eager. After having seen Shy Stripesy a couple of nights ago, I have a feeling that it's been coming here more than I knew. For many months, I noticed that when I open the door at night, the motion light on the side of the house comes on. I'd go over to see if any animal was there, and never saw one. I used to think that it was a possum running under the deck or across the yard. But now, I believe it's been Shy Stripesy all this time. It's probably afraid of the other ferals as well as me but the possums have not been, so I think it stays close to an escape route. As the number of ferals have grown and hung around since the last time I had seen Shy Stripesy some years back, I can see why it would practice more stealth.

This kitty sub-culture you have a running dialogue on is absolutely fascinating. Ferals don't last long up here. I'll share a cat story with you. Several years ago, a guy I rented a room to watched a performance that was quite stunning. A fox (we are surrounded with bush in the Hart Highland area in which I live,) was in a neighour's front yeard. It was lying on its back, waving it's legs in the air strangely. A neighbourhood cat gingerly approached to investigate. The fox kept waving his legs in the air. It paused at six feet, then as it began to move again, the fox, like lighting, and killed the cat before it could take another step.

We have no stray cats up here, and many neighbours have felines. They either are walked on leash like a miniature schnauzer, or are kept in the houses. Miniature dogs, like my Schih-Tsu Ricoh, suffered the same fate. I never took him outside without a leash. Cats are curious, little dogs are not too bright, and foxes are so quick you wouldn't believe it. They won't take on the Alsatians or other big dogs (they probably could but won't), but they cull the herd like crazy. In the fringes bordering the residential areas, the coyotes, wolves, and bears keep things in check. Effectively.

I've actually seen the fox in question doing the same manouver myself, but when I saw this, he had no takers . . . .

Did a set of walking reps, and am close to finishing this bowl of year 2016 D&R Three Sails in a slight bent black pattern etched 1977 Lorenzo Lorsan Sigma level top billiard with a gray swirl acrylic saddle stem. They're repairing a section of the road in front of our house, and the heat radiating from the tar was strong. I walked around it. Harry the Hairy wouldn't go near it either. When I came to the house at the end of my last lap, I saw Abner the Eager sitting on the roof of my car. He saw me walk up the driveway, and ran down to greet me. I picked him up, brought him inside to eat, and the happy li'l fella is snoozin' on the couch. Had the Braves game on pause, and have resumed watching it. Lunch follows this smoke.

Late Morning Smoke right now, as I type this. Inaugural break in of my new Ropp J06, with it's first load of my usual break in fodder of Smokers' Pride Whiskey. Not as pleasant as last night's initiation of the Mr Brog nosewarmer, but that's expected. I've never had great tastebuds in the AM, and now smoke only something as nasty as I have on hand, or some over-the-top gooey aro like Capt Black Cherry, in as small a pipe as I have. T'is what it is, I guess.

What I can say is that this pipe smokes like a Ropp. It just doesn't get any better. About the same draw as my J16 Mad Fiddler job, not quite as free as the J07. More like the L'il Pete, actually. Love it. Looking forward to putting this gem on standard rotation. I'll decide it bias or dedication at the appropriate time.

Have a great Thursday, and like the Terminator, "I'll be back."

PS - note the tobacco leaves. Many are yellowing and I'm about to subject them in a roulade cut with my chef's knife, into a ribbon style, and dry them out on a sheet in prep for kinowing what I'm doing research. Mudpies first.
