Looks like a thunder storm is moving in. Headed to the garage for leisurely
lunt. A vintage, restored House of Robertson bent Billiard with a new experimental mix.
I mixed up enough for a few smokes.
1 gram each of all C&D Baccy : Izmir, Bright Va Rbn, Red Va, cube Cut Burley and 2 grams of C&D Blk Cav all from 2021.
A cup of Pu’erh tea accompanying.

It’s really nice, rich, and complex. I’ve smoked quite a few of Ken’s blends, never smoked anything from him, that wasn’t top notch.

This makes me consider, sure, a lot of the big names out there, made by Sutliff, K&K, STG, etc., are doing some good stuff, but, consistency, is something I hear a lot about, up and down too at times, from the big names.

So...

Someone like Ken, small batch, more boutique, it’s my personal belief as a pipe smoker, and I hope others will also believe, we really need to support the little guys like Ken, because he really makes some top notch stuff. 👍

I say buy some, and let me know what you think? ;)

P.S. Also grab some Sakura if it’s in stock! 😋

Thanks for the great insights on the blend. I bought several of his Virginia offerings and his Burley last March. All in the cellar aging.
Mona Lisa Overdrive (Limited) × 1
Burley Morning Pipe × 2
Hand of Götz (Limited) × 1
Mr. Christian's Bright Side (2022) × 1
Byronic Hiro × 1
Jupiter Slices × 1

I need to try a couple of these soon! Im going to go check out his current offerings. My regressive TAD gene hasn’t acted up since December.🤔

Sutliff Stoved Virginia in the Dr. Grabow, enjoying a peaceful Sunday evening in the backyard. The dogwoods are done blooming, but the azaleas are well on their way, which means the Sulphurs will be hatching soon enough. This week possibly. Heaps of fun fishing a full blown Sulphur hatch right before dark. A great way to enjoy a pipe is waiting for the hatch to kick-off! Enjoy the evening everyone!

Almost half way through this bowl of Seattle Pipe Club Hogshead in a well appreciated medium bend, smooth brown pre-Republic Peterson 999 Dublin chubby Rhodesian with a tapered black vulcanite p-lip stem. I was late in posting the last smoke.

Sixpence, meer, beer.

This pipe has a 9mm filter which I use, and after experimenting I think I’ve come across the way I would describe the effect of a filter on tobacco: French press versus pour over.

A French press can have much greater body as filters remove lots of oils and other goodies. However, I prefer pour overs because it emphasizes the acidic side, particularly with African coffees. This kind of jives well with the music analogy too, where a filter is sort of an equalizer bringing down the bass.

Still experimenting, but I wonder if certain tobaccos will be more suited to the French press, whereas others will really shine filtered. Another variable I hadn’t considered.

@haebar I enjoyed the 1792 Flake in my clay pipes; I think Gawith tobacco is very well suited to clay pipes!
I don't smoke clay pipes very often, but I'll take your word on that. Do you smoke clays exclusively? I only have a clay churchwarden, a Williamsburg, Virginia Tavern pipe, that I bought on eBay. The reason that I don't smoke it very often is that it seems to take two hands to smoke it. I'd like to explore the smaller clays; where do you buy yours?

We're having thunderstorms here in East Tennessee currently. Just finished some ribs left over from my lunch at Applebee's. Won't be getting ribs there in the future; they weren't very good for what I paid for them. Smoking some Boswell's Pennsylvania Dutch Treat that they sent me when I bought a pipe from them a few weeks ago. Smoking it in a Peterson's Shamrock Dublin.
