Finishing off an old tin of EMP in a silver banded Castleford bent Yachtsman. Probably my least favorite classic Dunhill blend... notes of dead grass and paper bag are about all I get out of it. I much prefer Standard Mixture Mellow when I want less Latakia. Too bad they scrapped that gem of a blend.

Merde de Cheval in a Jima. Just took delivery of a late Victorian or early 20C Chinese pipe rack, carved with five dragons. I think it’s Teak. View attachment 79735View attachment 79736
Amazing carving on your 'dragons chasing the pearl' rack - a motif used on any number of objects coming from the Orient from c.1900 to c.1920 such as photograph frames ...

... etc. and reminded me of one I have in storage except mine is almost black (heavier than you would expect) and hinged so that it folds flat.

Enjoyed a much needed snooze, and am close to finishing this bowl of year 2016 McClelland 2015 in a 1980,1983 hall marked medium bend black sandblasted silver band Peterson Donegal 805 Bulldog with a black vulcanite p-lip saddle stem. Dinner is next!

I am not sure if it's double stamped and I have not been able to find the date codes for it. I would be interested in learning more. Thanks.
Also the amber stem is very fragile as @jiminks was saying earlier so I may wrap it with vinyl tape when I smoke it again.

Pretty sure that the large engraved "JB" on the left side of the ferrule is not the maker's mark but the initials of a former owner of the pipe.
As for the amber stem: if at all possible, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get something made up in vulcanite as amber can become brittle with age and even normal clenching could be enough to cause a sad accident.

Those American Hillbillies were mostly escaping the potato famine. I didn't know they took to smoking their shillelaghs.

Although not the longest nor the fattest out of all the cherry-wood pipes I've come across the Ropp Bussang is definitely the knobbliest and most shillelagh-like of any pipe I've ever seen:-

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, rainbow trout and green beans dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm close to being half way through this bowl of year 2017 Savinelli Doblone d’Oro in a smooth straight early ‘60s Lane era “William Conrad” Charatan Executive Extra Large stretch apple with diagonal channel cuts on the lower right and left of the bowl along with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink.

You may want to consider getting a new stem for the pipe, and retire the one you have for safety's sake. The cracks suggest to me that it could crumble easily, and you'd hate for that to happen while you were smoking it.
