Happy Sunday everyone (it is already in this part of the world). I am smoking the old MM Country Gentleman, my personal answer (without a second's hesitation) to the classic question: "If only one pipe?...". In it, I am having W.Ø. Larsen Craftsman's Edition 152. It was gifted to me (the whole tin of 100 gr!) by the Greek carver Kostas Gourvelos (KG pipes). The pipe tool comes from the same carver, it belongs to his "Simplest" series and this one is the brass edition. The spike has a magnetic attachment to the main body. Except from piping it can be used for... meditation purposes. If you keep the tool in your palm and use your thump to move the metallic rod up and down, there is just a small resistance and the movement is so smooth, it becomes a Zen thing...

Keep calm good people.

During our Saturday ZOOM with all my good friends, I enjoyed a bowl of Brebbia Latakia Flake No. 9 (six years old, with Syrian Latakia), in a early 1970s GBD Fantasy 864 Dublin with smooth triangular panels and a replacement stem made by Jim Cooke, back when he did pipe repairs. A tumbler of Peach/Mango Green Tea with a splash of Honey Jack and a fistful of bergs refreshed me as I smoked.

Enjoyed a tasty Jazz apple, and am a quarter of the way through this bowl of D&R Raccoon’s Friend in a pre-1980s straight dark brown Comoy's Sandblast 186 billiard with a black vulcanite tapered stem. Still working.

A quarter of the way through this bowl of Wilke Peanut Butter and Chocolate in a light brown 1979 rusticated medium bend Italian Sir Jeffrey Dublin (GBD second) sitter with a flared top and yellow saddle stem. This will finish my smoking day. Reading baseball box scores.

I’m smoking Golden Days of Yore in this Dr Plum “Seventy” that I got today from the same little shop I got the Stanwell, same price too. I’ve no idea what shape you’d call it but it actually smokes quite well and a little mineral oil has brought out quite a nice grain for what must have been an inexpensive pipe. Shape looks lovely and very similar to this GBD showing on the Pipedia site -
listed as a 9665 ('Bent Poker- Sitter')

although looks to me to have a smidgeon of 'Skater' in its DNA with a very 1970s flared base:-

Also spotted on eBay ...

... and elsewhere:-

There's also a Kaywoodie connection with your pipe and GBD:-
View attachment 80218

Considering the connection GBD/Dr. Plumb/Kaywoodie I guess it's not surprising that shapes crossover occasionally.
The Dr. Plumb was developed by the Parisian sales manager J.B. Rubinovich in 1925 when GBD France needed “a cheap line of pipes" especially for the Canadian market. In fact the new brand was named after Mr. Rubinovich’s secretary Leslie W. Plumb whose most important business was "to doctor the figures" in the ledgers.
(from Pipedia)
They are pretty much identical, I knew about the GBD connection but I didn’t realise that the shapes crossed over, especially so closely. I’m about to have my second smoke out of it, it’s got a good size bowl and I’m going to try and see what sort of blend it handles best.
