Another round of battening down the hatches for the next snowstorm. Fortunately, it's not until Tuesday night, so I can go about it in a leisurely enough fashion to enjoy a pipe simultaneously, OGS in a Stefano rhodesian. I'm down to the last three flakes of my original tin bought several years ago, and it hasn't given me anything less than a stellar smoke each time. 9/10

Bird report: California scrub-jay, White-crowned sparrow, Dark-eyed junco, California towhee, House finch, American crow, Red-tailed hawk, Northern flicker, Hairy woodpecker, White-breasted nuthatch, and Mountain chickadee.

This bowl was dedicated to my old Savinelli Tortuga 614, which suffered a fatal blow one year ago today.

Gorgeous! Proof that some factory pipes are as nice as artisan pipes.
I must say, this pipe is indeed gorgeous. The craftsmanship on the sterling silver band shows some real care, the fit and finish is all as it should be, and the red bark look and sandblast all work together to give the impression of an artisan pipe, especially the way it blends in with the Cumberland looking stem.

The description on the website stated it was a dark walnut finished. This is no dark walnut finish. It looks very artisan in its application and as I said, recalls a red bark look from Dunhill.

Could it have a bit more attention to detail in terms of how accurately the silver band matches the shank and stem? Maybe. But it is better than I normally see in a factory pipe.

The hole is drilled perfectly and lays perfectly in the bowl.

Well done.

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and am smoking year 2013 Esoterica Tilbury in a smooth medium bend 1999 Peterson Sherlock Holmes Series Milverton with a sterling silver band and a black vulcanite p-lip stem. Daisy the Feral Princess enjoyed lap time until Tomato the Brave started arguing with her about who gets on my lap. She jumped to the floor, Tomato jumped on my lap, got a little head scratch, and then wanted to go out. Silly fella.

Sutliff Edgeworth ready rubbed match in a Marxman Bench Made Bulldog.

This pipe is by far the darkest Marxman I've had yet. I'm wondering what the deal is. Of course smokes like a champ, but they usually only used umber in the factory on the cheaper lines and it's a little lighter, and smoking seems to impart a more reddish color than this. I'm guessing a prior owner could have stained it.20250310_224104.jpg

Near the last quarter of this bowl of year 2020 C&D Virginia Flake in a straight medium brown 1922-1937 Irish Free State era Peterson 222 bullcap with a sterling silver band and a tapered black vulcanite p-lip stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink.
