Following some imagined peer pressure from @hawky454 and @mingc I decided to chuck some rose petals in with my homegrown scraps yesterday. I had intended to leave this for a fortnight, but the petals brought the leaf into a medium-high case overnight that I decided to try today for fear of mould.

Well, whatdoyaknow, it works. I’m halfway through the and stopping for a glass of water while mowing the lawns. I still have the faint aftertaste of roses in my mouth.

Sounds like a winner to me! Thanks for sharing, gonna try to find some petals sooner rather than later now… ah the damn peer pressure!

Haha, I didn't mean to impose any pressure but I'm glad you tried it! I've heard that showy roses bred for looks don't necessarily have the greatest or strongest scent, so it's cool your's are tasty. But what do you mean when you say "case" in the phrase "the petals brought the leaf into a medium-high case overnight"?

I mean the moisture content of the leaf. My homegrown has no preservatives or humectant in it so I store and smoke it dry (low case). After having the petals in the jar, the tobacco became moist like that which you would expect of a ribbon blend in a tin. I’m assuming this would be similar to the old apple peel trick - not that I have tried this before.

There was A background flavour of rose water throughout. The floral muted some of the cigar taste of the Havana leaf and when the petals themselves were alight I got pops of vanilla.

If adding to a commercial blend, I’d definitely wait a fortnight. I’ll try again in a few days to see if the rose becomes more prominent
