Thank you, they’re mainly acquired by luck and being in the right place at the right time.Beautiful pipes
@Laurent , how long have you been making pipes?Thank you! It was my first pipe I made.
I’ve only made two so far. You’d laugh if you saw how I did it lol. I own every wood tool except a lathe. I drilled the holes using a drill, clamps, and steel tubed shims to keep everything in line. Stems are bought. I hand shape them with a 6” wheel, chisels and sandpaper. The first was a mimmo kit though that I just hand shaped and stained. I’ve watched old videos of famous pipe makers in the day make pipes without lathes and just followed the technique and made my own tools too. I plan on doing more. One day I’ll get a lathe lol.@Laurent , how long have you been making pipes?
Thanks Dan, I’m sure DD would suit your re-enactments and getting a half pound for less than a tenner is a big selling point. There’s a few harsh bits in the occasional bowl but I don’t mind that and no bite so far. Obviously not the greatest blend in the world because it’s just a conglomeration of many C&D VaBur/VaBurPer blends and not something specifically blended. It’s potluck as to what you’ll get in your order and your bowl. Ditto the Boneyard but that sold out pretty much overnight.@Birddog66 I like the figural clay pipe; haven't tried the Double Down yet. Would it suit re-enactment smoking???
I'll have to try some of the flavoured Cornell & Diehl blends when I order from Smokingpipes.com again; along with a few more clay pipes
Open them. They were actually still made by Dunhill back then, and you may never get another chance to smoke that vintage. The best versions were made by Dunhill.I’ve actually surprised myself with how lazy I’ve been today, I even missed out on the beautiful warm weather with my nose stuck in a book indoors.
I’m about to light up some very old Edgeworth, 60’s or early 70’s I think, in this Dr Grabow Commodore Dublin.
I’m also contemplating on whether I should open these small sample tins of Dunhill Nightcap and 965, they were very kindly gifted to me by a good friend and were part of a boxed set of twelve different blends. I believe they’re 70’s but that’s just going by the packaging of the box. The vacuum seals are intact so the tobacco itself should still be in good condition. View attachment 135032
