A beautiful morning, cool with bright sunshine. I see that the 'What are You Smoking' section of our universes little odometer is spinning around as it will through the whole month of June and as it does every month! It is nice that some things never change and remain ever constant. Today I am taking this amusing 7" 'Cutty' with amber stem out for a walk. It was a gift from a dear friend from the Florida Pipe Club and it had been sitting in a drawer that I had for some odd reason overlooked. This morning I am smoking some of 'Grandma's Underwear Drawer Soap' also known as Cannon Plug before giving this huge jar of Hogwarts Black Cherry Twist a whirl after lunch. It was very kindly sold to me by a forum member at a most reasonable price! I am curious to see if it tastes of anything when smoked since after chewing some yesterday I could not find any cherry flavor at all. I guess the world is getting very odd these days when it comes to tobacco and I thank my lucky stars I stock piled as much as I did. Have a fun morning and I'll drop by at coffee time and see how everyone is getting along.

Black Cherry Twist in a small size meerschaum 'Cutty' pipe circa turn of the century. This has to be one of Hogwarts more interesting creations. It has no noticeable Black Cherry topping, granted it might all have evaporated before the coil of rope got into my hands. At this point it tastes to me like very thick and loosely spun brown twist or rope. It would appear to me that since they moved facilities the rope or twist seems not to be as tightly spun as it once was ten years ago. It also seems to experience extreme problems taking a flame, this is improved after about 30 minutes drying time. Overall I am really pleased that I have extensive stocks of older rope and twists as this maybe just be an errant batch as opposed to a taste of things to come but I will jar this batch and see if it improves.

Almost half way through this bowl of year 2024 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Fed Sleepy Suzy, Molly Danger, and Tomato the Brave. Going to see if the other ferals are around and hungry. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Got a bit of a consolation in the mail (who knows what's happening with the mail deliveries in this country right now), (one of those sympathy consolations that comes in the dictionary between s**t and syphilis). More on this under the picture in Skippable Drivel below, but first, the new toy:

Yup, the new Mr. Brog Nosewarmer, the same pipe I have, but in black. First two break in smokes with Smoker's Pride Whiskey Tobacco, as usual. I cannot get over how beautifully these pipes smoke. As good as anything I have, and they're cheap like borscht. My only caveat is that they MUST be smoked very slowly, which is a skill I've only developed recently and is still a work in progress.

The smokes themselves were not too bad at all, even for a break in, about on par with the uncoated Ropps. Got pretty much an hour out of them and Whiskey is a fairly fast burning tobacco. Guess the Polish varnish is not as harsh as others I've experienced. Another couple will do it, and this little sucker will become the mainstay of my travel kit, along with the straight Falcon and a couple of cobs. Will likely bias this one for English styles, the mainstay of my afteroon travel smokes.

Skippable Drivel: Hernia Operation Update: I've got this hospital thing figured out. In the "old days", you went in for a 3 day stint, and they tested and prepped you in situ with the doctor and nurses doing the prep tests while you were in a room with someone or a couple of others for the duration, and a day or two after for observation if needed.

Not now. You're contacted by phone at 8:00 am (who on earth willingly gets up at that ungodly hour??????) and given the instructions for tomorrow's test over the phone, have to drive (or get driven) into town, in my case 12 miles, on a daily basis, because they don't have enough doctors and nurses to staff a hospital.

I have a test, procedure, bloodwork or whatever every single day except Sunday, and even then I can't be sure, then get cut on Monday, being released one hour after the operation itself. They'll give me some goofballs to kill the pain for a day, and then that's itl

Welcome to the Brave New World. I'll stop whining and go away now, cuz my sister Jan is picking me up for today's bloodtests in the vampire ward in an hour, then she needs to go shopping.

I'll try to catch up on a few posts later in the day. EKG tomorrow. What fun. Have a great day one and all.
