Thanks for all the well wishes. Got a bit of a
consolation in the mail (who knows what's happening with the mail deliveries in this country right now), (one of those
sympathy consolations that comes in the dictionary between
s**t and syphilis). More on this under the picture in
Skippable Drivel below, but first, the new toy:

Yup, the new
Mr. Brog Nosewarmer, the same pipe I have, but in black. First two break in smokes with
Smoker's Pride Whiskey Tobacco, as usual. I cannot get over how beautifully these pipes smoke. As good as anything I have, and they're cheap like borscht. My only caveat is that they MUST be smoked very slowly, which is a skill I've only developed recently and is still a work in progress.
The smokes themselves were not too bad at all, even for a break in, about on par with the uncoated Ropps. Got pretty much an hour out of them and Whiskey is a fairly fast burning tobacco. Guess the Polish varnish is not as harsh as others I've experienced. Another couple will do it, and this little sucker will become the mainstay of my travel kit, along with the straight Falcon and a couple of cobs. Will likely bias this one for English styles, the mainstay of my afteroon travel smokes.
Skippable Drivel: Hernia Operation Update: I've got this hospital thing figured out. In the "old days", you went in for a 3 day stint, and they tested and prepped you in situ with the doctor and nurses doing the prep tests while you were in a room with someone or a couple of others for the duration, and a day or two after for observation if needed.
Not now. You're contacted by phone at 8:00 am (who on earth willingly gets up at that ungodly hour??????) and given the instructions for tomorrow's test over the phone, have to drive (or get driven) into town, in my case 12 miles, on a daily basis, because they don't have enough doctors and nurses to staff a hospital.
I have a test, procedure, bloodwork or whatever
every single day except Sunday, and even then I can't be sure, then get cut on Monday, being released one hour after the operation itself. They'll give me some goofballs to kill the pain for a day, and then that's itl
Welcome to the Brave New World. I'll stop whining and go away now, cuz my sister Jan is picking me up for today's bloodtests in the vampire ward in an hour, then she needs to go shopping.
I'll try to catch up on a few posts later in the day. EKG tomorrow. What fun. Have a great day one and all.
