First try of Mac Baren HH Pure VA in a Peterson Irish Harp 80s blasted bulldog, on the heels of my first try of VA flake (@hoosierpipeguy you're right, the latter is just a little sweeter, but both kick ass in their own way, of course) in the same pipe. I definitely see what all the hoopla is about, and emphatically concur. 9.3/10

Bird report: California scrub-jay, House finch, California towhee, Western bluebird, Hairy woodpecker, Mountain chickadee, Common raven, and White-breasted nuthatch.

Glad to finally have some relaxing time, and enjoy this big temperature drop. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Celebrated World No Tobacco Day yesterday with lunch and with a few like-minded people and cigars. The cigar gods were with us - rained while we were lunching, then dried up while we lit up.

No such luck today - it’s been pissing down all day

Taking out my only 2 North American briars.
The 1st is a post-WWll LHS Sterncrest Lovat with a chimney tenon extension instead of the more usual metal stinger

Having Samuel Gawith Squadron Leader in the smallest of my very early Eugène-Léon Ropp pipes, a Cherrywood with a Natural Horn Stem. It’s stamped “Bussang,” so, it’s very likely it was made at Ropp’s original workshop there between 1870–1893.

Always pleased to see your Ropp cherry woods
It’s a pity that they have stopped producing these
