Bayou Morning Flake in a Lasse Skovgaard bent brandy with horn, a very reliable blend for me, not my favorite, but it is dependable and I wind up smoking at least a bowl most days. This pipe is so simple and perfect to me. I wonder if I’d be able to pick it out as a handcrafted, artisan pipe in a blind test. I think it’s possible I couldn’t. There is something appealing to me about the lone, small scale artisan carver either way. I don’t mind paying more to support these rare individuals. And as long as one doesn’t go after the perfect straight grains, you can find these at the top end of factory prices. I have a feeling Scovgaard prices will keep rising though.

Voodoo Queen in a genuine MM 5th Avenue Diplomat. My wife invited people over tomorrow. Being the anti social misanthrope that I am, I'm gathering all that's good within me to prepare for this event. I'll be smoking baby back ribs, chicken thighs and many bowls of good tobacco, so it won't be all bad.

Saturday night I decided to pop a bulging tin of Chenet's Cake from 10-13-20 that was stewing it's components so vigorously that both top and bottom were protruding and it was wiggling in the stack where it lay.

That first whiff of tin note was unlike ANYTHING I've ever smelled before. My best attempt at describing that brief moment was that it was fermented cream, earth, hay - at that moment it was the best tin note I've ever smelled.

I let it sit overnight with the plastic lid back on and Sunday afternoon I pulled out one of my earliest pipe purchases, hand-made in Poland, that gets nice long rests between events, and filled it with the crumbles and rubbings of said cake.

A very exceptional smoke, IMO. Highly recommended and I may need more of these for the future.

Not far from finishing this bowl of early 2000s Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Hard rains will wash out walking reps today. Watching Mad Dog Russo.
