New toy arrived, Savinelli's Punto Oro army mount 1002.
The first pipe I had in 2008 was a Savinelli Roma Lucite(something like that), and I also took Danish Black Vanilla and Sunday's Fantasy from the pipe shop. This terrible combination almost made me give up smoking pipes too early. Fortunately, a friend gave me a can of Morton Frogs and a can of Orlik Golden Sliced as gifts, reversed my misconception that pipe tobacco is a kind of sweet and greasy artificial spice.
15 years later, I once again get a Savinelli, a product from 1958 to 1969 that was comparable to dunhill from the same era. Now I began to understand why our friend @TheIronMonkey Jeff had such a passion for Savinelli.
Will smoke a bowl of 965 in it later.View attachment 226864
I think SG Black Forest is the commercial pipe baccy most like my imagined "Clay King" blend:
SG Golden Glow sounds like it would suit the King's clay as well:Samuel Gawith - Black Forest
GQ Tobaccos specialising in Artisan & Factory Tobacco Pipes, Boutique Tobaccos, Snuffs and other smokers accessorieswww.gqtobaccos.com
"Clay King" would be a Virginia / Cavendish blend; I imagine it would be made by Samuel Gawith / Gawith Hoggarth or Wilson's of Sharrow (just down the road from me in Sheffield).Samuel Gawith - Golden Glow
Wow if you like straight up and light Virginia blends, Golden Glow is one for you. This broken flake of mature, flue cured Virginia's has a wonder hay/grass aroma. The tobacco is a little so allowing a little air time, makes for a easier to light smoke and a touch cooler. From the word go this...www.gqtobaccos.com
I'd like to try the Wilson's of Sharrow pipe tobacco:
In a clay of course!Wilson's of Sharrow Pipe Tobacco - Black Swan Shoppe
Revel in the historic blends of Wilsons of Sharrow Pipe Tobacco, crafted since 1740 in Sheffield, and enjoy a legacy of quality tobacco products.www.thebackyshop.co.uk
I'll have to get some Gawith & Wilson's of Sharrow blends at the Nottingham pipe show.
A shame @Chaukisch disappeared; he was making me a special "Clay King" clay pipe blend at the time of his disappearance; Gold Lemon Virginia & Sweet Black Cavendish flavoured with honey, lemon & Viking Mead. All gone to waste now:-(
Of course! How could you not have a pool meer? We're not savages, right?Worked on my Jeep, cleaned up in the garage, and got some old Jeep parts listed for sale this morning.
Now relaxing in the pool with a triple Drambuie on the rocks with an orange twist and some KBV Sakura in my pool meer:

@PipeIT I was smoking C&D Yorktown in my clay pipe when I had it lit with an ember from the blacksmith's forge at the Redcoats & Revolutionaries events last 2 years; he'll probably be doing the honours again this year!Golden Glow is a really nice, slightly sweel VA, I have a tin.
If you like light, straight, slightly sweet VAs, give it a try.
