When Susan and I closed on our Pennsylvania house in August of 2020, it was on her birthday. We celebrated with the exquisite Japanese Blended Whisky, Hibiki 21. These were her tasting notes at the time (which were very accurate):

On June 27th, we closed on a new property and celebrated late, last night, again with Hibiki 21:

It was still just as amazing.

After our drink (and some snacks), as part of the closing celebration, I had planned on smoking a virginal pipe that a very dear friend recently gifted me, but I got tired and konked out. Today, we had a bunch of things to take care of (not to mention work), so I’m only just now settling in to relax and have a smoke. Having Savinelli 145⁰ (2024 Edition, numbered 1,751/2,500) in this beautiful gift, a smooth, Savinelli Autograph 6 Fan with black acrylic stem.

I have an E. Andrew fan/bridge pipe that looks almost exactly like that.

A third of a bowl left of year 2024 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Fed all the cats except for Abner the Eager. I'll check on him when I go walking. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

The Eternal City - The many parks - 25 percent of Rome is Park Land. Watching the pasta being made and turned quickly into meals, the pizza we've had, the wine, limoncello, and even the Amphora Special Reserve tobacco - it is all wonderful. I've been to all of the great cities - at least most of them. Paris, London, Rome - of the three, even Paris must acknowledge that Rome may very well be more the City of Love - and I always enjoy Paris. Rome exudes the lives of everyday people - people like you and I. Madrid and Barcelona and Seville as well - great cities all, but somehow, I will still take Rome. I think it is because nothing in the city looks down on me as being less or more than I am. But within a year or so, we will get a chance to sip on some whiskey in Southern Spain. That much is true. We can decide then. When we are finished with the bottle, we can toss it at Morocco and have another toast.
Rome- a wonderful city! Some great tobacco shops there too.

Did a set of walking reps on this extra humid day, and smoked a bowl of year 2016 D&R Three Sails in a slight bent black pattern etched 1977 Lorenzo Lorsan Sigma level top billiard with a gray swirl acrylic saddle stem. The ground is still wet from the storms, so I guess Abner the Eager hasn't ventured out our way yet. Watching the Nats-Tigers game, and getting ready to eat lunch.
