Today I took a walk to the lake with my dog while smoking Mixture #79 in my Kaywoodie pot. The mellow, slightly aeromatic burly just barely hinted of licorice during the first half hour, then a subtle toasted chocolate undertone took over for the final half hour. The bowl took so long I ended up back home to finish the smoke in my back yard tree house.

Edit: This was the first use of a 1981 lighter I found during my long-term project of cleaning out my dad’s house. The lighter belonged to my brother (he was on a Marine Amphibious Unit aboard this ship) who passed away 24 years ago. He smoked cigarettes and did Zippo tricks. The lighter was missing the lid, so I sent it to Zippo, and they kindly welded a new lid on. It’s nice to add this accessory to my pipe smoking rotation.
