Limited experience, I love this pipe, smokes good, looks good, but the inner rim is already darkened. I’m not necessarily disappointed by this but I might ask him about it. He’s on the level. I usually don’t get tan blasts because I’m afraid of this happening. I do think it has something to do with the finish and probably different carvers have their own philosophical reasons for how they finish pipes. I know little about the subject. I don’t regret the purchase, it smokes great, looks great, feels good in hand.
Just my opinion but the tan shell, spongia pipes look better or proper with fumed up rims and are actually the only pipes it doesn’t aggravate me on other than meers.
I always thought they develop a nice patina.

That’s the type of stuff I haven’t even considered. :) we will see how it turns out! There is a reason I usually like dark stain or dark sandblasts. 😂

Ill try your ever-clear bath to see how it does on an old Pete. Usually I just burn some SWRA or another ARO to cure that but this might do it better.
Pipe hygiene shouldn't be so different from your own. When you are dirty and smelly, do you take a shower/clean up or just try to cover with cologne? I wouldn't leave everclear in a vulcanite/ebonite stem too long though, i am led to believe it oxidizes the rubber. Brian Levine discusses this at length in many of the pipesmagazine podcasts.

I know it's not right. But I bit the bullet, and I'm smoking a bowl of Capstan Gold, in a Carolina Gent. I'm still on the oral treatment, but I'm smoking less, I don't think it will affect anything. In a little while, I'll be walking around at night, and all you'll see is my gleaming teeth with an incredible nuclear white. Oh my God, women will faint in the street when they see me smile.View attachment 235706
I think you’re worrying too much about your teeth John.
Here in Britain, we’ve all got terrible teeth but we’re happy.
This is how we do it…..

Enjoyed a tasty lunch, and am passing the quarter mark on this bowl of year 2018 Sutliff Dunhill Elizabethan Match in a 1982 smooth straight Dunhill Root Briar 31051 dublin with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Got a new Archie Halloween Haunted House story that's due sooner than the one I've been working on, so for the second, I have to put it aside for another story. This has happened to me dozens and dozens of times in the past so I'm used to it. No complaints at all. No walking today due to the over 100 degree heat index, and the rush on this job for the next couple of days. Larry's Espresso #9, neat, is my drink.
