I’m having Gawith Hoggarth & Co. Rum Flake in a MM The Louis. Picked up my cat from the vet. Blood work, x-rays, enema, and a couple injections of antibiotics and steroids.
Diagnosis - bronchitis. $705.00?. Vets are the new robber barons.? I normally don’t drink on Mondays, but that flew out the window when I got the bill.
I can tell you: vets who specialize in birds are uber expensive, too. Try to focus on the relief you feel, and enjoy that drink (or two).

Sorry to hear about that -- I've had some crazy-high bills for my cats and dogs in the past. They actually sell health insurance for pets these days. I think I'll look into it.

Absolutely. Truth be known, if the diagnosis had been more serious, no expense would have been spared. Just blowing a little steam. I was already prepared and clinched up for a $300-$400 bill, but jeez. Oh well, what are you gonna do?!

I‘m having that drink. Cheers!

@virkia Love the clay pipe and the photos - and your wooden barrel pipe cleaner container. I think it's a shame we can't get together for a few beers and bowls...
I remember you replying to my post saying I'd have a hard time choosing one of your clays to break in, or just break!
I have a church warden pipe but don't want to take it out and smoke it for fear of breaking it and the only way to keep clay pipes clean is not to smoke them as the tobacco tar soaks into the clay...
Thank you . . . the barrel is just a regular biscuit barrel without its lid.

Speaking about breaking clays - the churchwarden in the pic of the other day was originally about a third longer when bought at the 1991 Phillips auction of Tony Irving's House of Pipes contents' sale but I accidentally broke a section of the stem when I smoked it last

W.Southorn & Co. late 1950s churchwardens before and after

I feel that white clay pipes look so much better after being smoked for a time as like meerschaums they develop such an amazing patina.

I've been in your shoes more than once. Even when the price hurts, it's worth it to take care of family.
