Many nice Lovats here. Never had one, so corrected that last week -- Savinelli 703KS Antique Shell, which accompanied me to Jan Pipe Club earlier this week. In the racks, it joined my Sav Antique Shell 626 Bent Apple and my Sav Antique Shell 623 Bent Bulldog. Thinking the Antique Shell rustication is similar to Rossi's Vittorio, but will have to compare them. This Lovat is a great smoker already, with 7 bowls through it.
Re: this week's Pipe Club, I brought a jar of Erinmore that I'd jarred in '13, after trying just a couple bowls back then. It was well received by my Pipe Club brothers with comments that the "pineapple" was somewhat noticeable initially. I've since tried it again, nice VA base with some Burley & Black Cav, can also somewhat detect the "pineapple", but I'm thinking it's really mellowed with nearly 12 years of age ... like some commentary that Latakia (English, Balkans) also mellows & smooths over time, sort of losing its machismo.
Went ahead "tinkering" with the Erinmore, pouring out a handful into a soup bowl & then adding about 20 - 25% Perique. The new Lovat was pressed into action & this was good. Then went to my Peterson Donegal Rocky 302 System Standard for a double Parfait:
Top 1/2 = Erinmore w/Perique
Bottom 1/2 = GH Bob's Square Cut, courtesy of another Pipe Club brother
NOTE:
1) Again, should I ever dispense with my name Sandblast, I'll go with Parfait_Guy. Can I get "dibs" on it?
2) And again, my adventuresomeness for Parfaits is restricted to doubles. Having tried triples (even a fiver once), I feel that more than two sort of guilds the lily, a bit too much, confusing the identities of the components.
3) Re: Peterson Systems, my opinion is that they are such awesome smoking pipes. Everybody should have at least one (!!!).
4) As I always enjoy reading Jim's comments on his meals, plus my various comments on my own cooking masterpieces (ahem), while savoring a wooden bowl filled with freshly made Pork, Sauerkraut, Onions & Apples, I was also reading a few things about the North Korean Army & how many of them survive (subsist) on Grass, Potatoes & Tree Bark. WOW
