UFC 311, Islam Makhachev vs. Renato Moicano, is taking place in the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. Makhachev was supposed to fight Arman Tsarukyan, but Tsarukyan had to withdraw yesterday due to a back injury. Moicano was chosen as a substitute and his fight on the same card against Beneil Dariush was cancelled. As UFC fights take place in an Octagon, I’m opting to use my eight-sided Savinelli pipes to smoke during the fights today. Our friend, John is visiting to watch the fights with us. He happened to bring his Ottagono Due and Tre limited edition pipes with him; it seems the stars were in alignment (well, more accurately, planets this week): we had a belated Christmas present waiting for him when we got back to Pennsylvania—the original 2022 Ottagono pipe.

I’m starting off with Savinelli Doblone d’Oro in the first Savinelli Ottagono, a sandblasted, black, Straight Billiard (sort of a Pot after shaping) Limited Edition (No. 359/550), with a 9mm orange and black craquelure acrylic stem (I’m not using a filter; I opted for a 3mm adapter). This first Ottagono in the series used new old-stock stummels (probably made from leftover Octavia 138 stummels). John’s pipe is No. 262/550.

I’m following that up with Savinelli Brunello Flake in a sandblasted, black, Savinelli Ottagono Due (aka Ottagono II) Straight Dublin Limited Edition (No. 63/600, selected for my birth year, 1963—John has No. 76/600 for his birth year). This pipe is based on the Octavia 438.

Next up will be Savinelli Juno in a sandblasted, black, Savinelli Ottagono Tre (aka Ottagono III) Bent Billiard Limited Edition (No. 484/600, selected for the two 4s and one 8 tying in with the octagonal theme; our birthday present to John was supposed to be No. 448/600, but smokingpipes.com sent the wrong one—they didn’t actually have 448 in stock and sent some randomly selected number without asking me if I had a preferred substitution, which messed up my carefully crafted gift plan. John’s pipe is No. 468/600. This pipe is based on the Octavia 638.

These three pipes should get me through most of the six hour broadcast, and maybe the post show. My pipes are the ones on the left side of each tin, John’s on the right.

I got 1 can of this because my best bud wanted to try it and I have to admit that I like it and it has a very nice balance. A decent blend and I would buy another most likely it were available. I love dark fire but not straight up, this is a perfect amount. Altinok meer

Went snowshoeing at Ponderosa State Park and ended up next to the lake. After looking at it for a few minutes, my wife asked me if I brought the pipe. Of course I did, so we sat on a nearby picnic table that didn’t have snow on it and shared one together. She told me I should take a picture for my forum (with her holding the pipe), and then she took a picture of me smoking as well. She’s very thoughtful like that, and even edited the photo of me. A nice afternoon together.

Near the last quarter of Watch City Original Crumb Cut in a 1950s-60s straight smooth brown Bertram 07 octagonal paneled billiard with a square shank and a tapered black vulcanite stem. Daisy the Feral Princess was inside, but the others were at the door wanting in. I opened the door, and Harry the Hairy attacked Tomato the Brave by jumping on him and a fight broke out. Tomato, who's not a fighter, ran off. Abner the Eager was very scared, so I picked him up and brought him in to eat. He's okay now. I left Harry outside. We thought spending time with him would lower his aggressive attitude towards the other ferals, but that hasn't been the case. Harry is nice to us, but not to other cats. Neutering him hasn't made a difference.

Having a tough time with Bob’s leg-send to be paining him way more today, but there’s no signs of infection. Frickin’ horses…
Hope your horse buddy heals up quickly! What are your thoughts on the brown slices?

Brown Bogie with less fuss, I like it. Comes partially rubbed, I’m sure from the handling, kind of a ribbon and little coins from the core. I cut my twists lengthwise then half coins as thing as I can and run out anyway. If you’re expecting a bag full of nicely sliced coins, you’ll be disappointed.IMG_3537.jpeg

Mac Baren Burley London Blend in a Savinelli Porto Cervo 122 rusticated pot, while walking around the ranch with wifey and mustang (recuperating nicely from a minor knee injury earlier in the week). One of my favorite blends, for sure. 9.5/10

Bird report: California quail, Dark-eyed junco, California towhee, White-crowned sparrow, American crow, American robin, Western bluebird, Northern flicker, and Hairy woodpecker.

@Sobrbiker crazy coincidence, eh? Best wishes to Robert for a speedy recovery! 🙏
