@Birddog66 Had a fantastic day at the Battle of Nantwich; met a lot of the Sealed Knot re-enactors & got to try 2 helmets on! Met 2 Sealed Knot members I'd smoked a clay with when I met them before, at Bolsover Castle in 2019 & Nottingham Pipe Show in 2022. One of the Musketeers lit my clay pipe of 1792 Flake with his match cord. Gave one of the Sealed Knot a smoke of my long clay pipe loaded with 1792 Flake - I think he was putting the smoke on when I photographed him:)
like you had a great time Dan 👍👍

I can tell you, I love the pipes you post here. You have beautiful examples of vintage American pipes.
Thank you 🙏
@Birddog66 Used your leather tobacco pouch in Nantwich yesterday; it was full when I set out & half full on the way home. Going to finish the 1792 Flake today.
I’m glad it’s come in handy for you mate and found a Royal personage to keep it safe.

A couple of photos of me at the Battle of Nantwich re-enactment yesterday. I met 2 people I'd had a clay pipe with; one at the Siege of Bolsover in 2019 & another at Nottingham Pipe Show in 2022. I was disappointed when I saw smoke coming from one of the re-enactors mouths only to find he was smoking a roll-up (there is evidence for smoking tobacco rolled in paper back then) but I really wanted a clay pipe photo...
One of the musketeers lit my clay with a length of match cord (he wasn't carrying gunpowder at the time)!
I’m not sure how true this is but I heard that Turkish soldiers during the Crimean War started rolling their tobacco in the paper from cannon fuses after their pipes were eventually broken during the campaign. It’s a nice story regardless.
