Last one of the work day before I eat dinner. Early 1880s meerschaum pipe with gold filigree band and full amber stem probably by either an Austrian or Parisian pipe maker. It is a well colored pipe from years of smoking and before anyone asks that is not 'Ox Blood' but a very pleasing 'turd color' on steroids caused by damp plug or twist with the oils being soaked up by the pipe. My before dinner pipeful is a bowl of Cannon Plug kindly sent to me by a charming gentlemen on this forum. I'll see you all later before I head to bed as I have a massive salad waiting for me.

You've made a fine choice (!). I love my Peterson Army Mount 999, the looks, the "feel in hand" & how great it smokes. Having said that, I've always loved my Savinelli Antique Shell 626 with same kudos .... looks, "feel in hand" & (maybe) my best smoking pipe. Neither has the biggest bowl, but both just SO nice. Which is "better"? As John Wayne said once, "I'd hate to have to live on the difference." And since you're entering "the new world of bent pipes", down the line .... WAY down the line .... is the whole genre of Oom Pauls. : ) Oh Yeah...

The 999 is gorgeous! I was almost taking a dip into Rhodesian/Bulldogs as well - I was originally looking at the Derry 80s, but there were none left. You're right about the 626 - I have the Tortuga - a very nice feel in hand. I neglected it for so long only to go back to it realizing what a great pipe it was. I think all my bowls are around that size - fits a nice folded flake in there for an hour and maybe a bit more smoke.
