Hello comrades.
I am not a Virginia smoker, I like aromatics and Latakia based blends. But I keep a Va tobacco tin open and load my pipe with it from time to time for the sake of variety. I prefer yellow Capstan and Orlik Golden Sliced mostly, but today I am having some Richmond Navy Cut. In the first pipe I have bought, still in my rotation, reinforced from some point after with pipe mud at the bottom. I recently cleaned the top of the bowl which was totally black, only to find that I liked it better that way...
I believe you agree, it is a special moment, when you relight your first pipe.
Have a nice weekend good people!

OK, this is not going to be a popular answer, so let me preface it by admitting that I suspect that my taste buds must be seriously flawed and I would appreciate any help that may be offered. I am currently smoking ... Borkum Riff Cherry Cavendish which, for some reason, even after trying at least 20 other cherry blends recommended as the "best," is the one I prefer. And yes, it sometimes anesthetizes my tongue, and on occasion makes my pipe sound like a sippy straw looking for what's left at the bottom of a milkshake. What can I say, I like the strong cherry taste. But I do suspect that there is something out there that would appeal more even to my apparently defective sense of taste, and as I've never actually tried anything but cherries and vanillas maybe that something is a non-aro. Any suggestions?
Before you give up on the cherry style blends I suggest you try some McLintock CREME DE CASSIS if you haven't already done so

If you'd like to move away from aromatics I'd suggest a non-flavoured Virginia such as Dunhill THREE YEAR MATURED / the Charatan equivalent or B&H MELLOW VIRGINIA mixed 50%/50% with ST. BRUNO

As for smoking English/Oriental/Perique style blends your home situation may determine the wisdom of that choice as room note could well be an issue.

I was in a similar situation before this hobby got serious. I started my non aro journey with a VaPer, I’d give Peterson Navy Rolls a try and a light Latakia blend. Ask your tobacconist (your new best friend), they know what they’re doing if it’s a proper shop.

Afternoon everyone and happy International Pipe Smoking Day ???! I had no idea either until I read a email from my tobacconist urging me to celebrate by buying a new Dunhill.
I’m celebrating with Peterson Special Reserve 2019 in the Ornsby with my coffee. Off to do some shopping in a mo with Peterson Plug cut with a little bit of Cabbies in my Nording Sailor. I’m thinking of laying down the Plug for a while after this smoke for a few months.
