Enjoyed a tasty lunch, and am now smoking Greeneyes Stoved Red Virginia Plug in a black straight, grain etched family era (Post WW2) Four Dot Sasieni “Appleby” apple with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Watching Sounds of Baseball discussing the careers of Red Barber and Mel Allen.

You may ask how I knew it was he that bought them...
All I can say is that t'was nothing more than that small vertical black line on the front pipe bowl in photo #2 - and photo #4 - plus the time elapsed from the end of the auction with delivery from the U.K. to the U.S.

I stack the coins primarily. I find it burns a bit cooler and more flavorful than rubbing out. When rubbed out the blend seems more tempermental and can get too hot if smoked too fast. I find it best when smoked slowly with the coins intact in a Meerschaum. Sometimes I top the bowl with a little 5 Brothers or Dark Bird's Eye for a nicotine punch and help get the top coin burning evenly without touching it with a flame.
With all coin cut blends I've always followed the advice printed on the tobacco press insert that came inside tins of THREE NUNS:-

Yeah they started writing that on the inside of the old school tins. From what it says on my old tins I don’t think anyone had much exposure to coins or rope when it first came out.

I don’t understand this. Wouldn’t stacked coins in pipe be too dense to burn? Also moist coins are wider then most of my pipes. Does this mean loosely crumple the coins “cannonball” ish and stack them?
