It's Christmas Eve.. going to smoke my father's favorite two pipes today. He passed away on this day last year at 91 going on 92. Without going into details, it was sudden, quick, and family was there. The way he had hoped it would be. A couple years before I had sent these two pipes (pictured below) to Rich at Briarville for cleaning and brought them around to my dad. He held onto them for a year but decided he didn't want to start up smoking again and gave them back. I've been keeping them aside since then. Both are no name pipes. Pipe on top is a bent meer billiard. Pipe below is a meer-lined leather wrapped briar with a twist-stinger and acrylic stem.

Decided to break out two new to me blends: a 2023 Dunbar, and 2017 McClelland No.27. First up with this morning's coffee is the Dunbar in the meer-lined briar. Later will be the No.27 in the Meer. Love you, Dad. Miss you. Thank you.

Scott, that is tough to deal with, I am sure. I'm sure he would be pleased to know that you are thinking of him on this anniversary of his passing.

Looks like it's going to be what we in Tennessee call a "T-shirt Christmas"-- Temps in the low 70's (low 20's for you Celsius folks) from now through to the weekend. Ol' Santa may have to swap out the runners on his sleigh for 4x4 off-road tires in order to make his southerly rounds this year.

In the meantime, a brief codger respite from the Christmas chaos-- smoking Carter Hall in my trusty old 1940's Marxman Bench Made billiard pot.
She may not be the prettiest girl at the at the cotillion, but she sure as hell knows how to dance with burley blends.

It doesn't get much simpler than that. Merry Christmas Eve, y'all.

You got that right, Phantom......
I was stacking some sacks of feed and cleaning, down at the barn, while wearing a flannel shirt. About second sack of feed, the flannel came off and I finished the work in a tee shirt. I think it goes back to the 20's next week.

Just finished some Amphora Burley in a Pete Short Army X105 while out for a walk.

Did a set of walking reps on this beautiful sunny day, and smoked a bowl of year 2016 D&R Three Sails in a slight bent black pattern etched 1977 Lorenzo Lorsan Sigma level top billiard with a gray swirl acrylic saddle stem. I was a little surprised to see how Tomato the Brave and Harry the Hairy were sitting when I started out to walk. They usually stay away from each other.

Took a break from wrapping presents to smoke some GLP Cumberland in a Peterson Paneled Billiard, tasty stuff. Got some more chores to do before the Christmas Eve church service and then the festivities really begin. I got some Fires On The Levee drying now to have as a late evening smoke, popped the tin and it smells great, I have high hopes for this one. Merry Christmas Eve everyone, hope ya'll are ready!

The winter break is here. I am settling in with bowl of four year old Father Dempsey in a Savinelli Punto Oro 104 billiard. Father Dempsey is a fairly coarse cut so I like to fine cut it, let it dry a little, and then rub it out heavily. With some age, it takes on a sweet, tart, and an almost wine-like jar note. Very nice. Unseasonably warm weather here this week but trending cooler next week. Sadly, no white Christmas.

Wishing you and yours the very best for the holiday season.
