Enjoyed a nice, restful Sabbath, and blessedly (and surprisingly) quiet to boot. Also enjoyed a bowl of Drew Estate Grand Central in my aromatic pipe, a Savinelli Miele 641 KS smooth bent apple. A bit of a calm-before-the-storm type day today...California is about to get slammed with a robust rainstorm, and it's a toss-up as to whether or not it will fall here as rain or snow. Going to be a busy couple days preparing for it here, but I need not concern myself with that right now; more pressing is deciding what tin to crack once this jar is done. 9/10

Had HU Dark Moor, then refills as the day went from the pocket pouch of my Dark Sails mix in a blasted Ropp J07.
Today’s fun was trenching (with a pick) for power to the foaling pen.
I was concerned with the water line that feeds the stalls and the shop, so I whipped up some dowsing rods.
I believe it is a cursed practice because I have a 100% success rate of correctly finding the location of water lines when I use them, but also a 100% history of jacking up the line anyway. Today’s line was way shallower than I expected, and after fixing it, when I turned the water back on I didn’t see a crack that extended beyond my repair, so I got to do it again

Been sick with a cold since Sunday and finally felt like having a smoke this morning (forgot to post). Had some KBV Fuzzy’s Toast of London in a Gatlin-burlier bent bulldog with black coffee. The Toast of London was a knee-jerk purchase that I do not regret. Very tasty!

Second pipe repair good to go, halfway backfilled, and water settling overnight. Hooking up the outlet, switches, finish backfilling, and compaction in the morning.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and snow peas dinner with a few Belgian chocolate cookies and the last of the vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. Then, I smoked a bowl of year 2014 Dan Tobacco Hamborger Veermaster in a smooth straight brown 1950 Dunhill 48 bulldog group 4 root briar with a black vulcanite fish tail saddle stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink.

Tonight is my first smoke of WCC Kringle's Koncoction in an Altinok poker, paired with a N'ice Chouffe Belgian dark beer. Really nice blend of their Simply Red Virginia, cavendished Izmir, and perique. Definitely recommend this one while they have it!

Earlier this year, I picked up a smokingpipes.com 25th Anniversary Savinelli pipe. They made seventy-five of these pipes—eleven in the Natural Smooth finish; twenty-nine in the Burgundy Smooth; and thirty-five of the Sandblasted. I thought, “Hmmm. Unique shape. Silver army mount fittings. Anniversary with silver SPC rondelle. Long history of the two companies working together. Regular customer of both. Geez, only eleven Natural finishes? Pretty nice Straight Grain. I’m going to kick myself if I don’t grab one. It’s only money.” I thought about getting all three versions, but the Sandblasted ones sold out very quickly (they were the least expensive of the three, but to my eye, better looking than the Burgundy finish, which are the only versions still up for sale).

This foiled my plans for a perfect anniversary pairing of branded goods and bummed me out. I was left with an anniversary pipe with no anniversary tobacco to put in it with regularity. When G.L. Pease’s 25th Anniversary Silver Jubilee tobacco was announced, I thought this might be an acceptable solution to my “problem,” and because of my fondness for a great many Pease blends, perhaps a truly better answer.

Half way through this bowl of year 2012 Stonehaven in a straight black sandblasted 1957 Barling Exel 249 Fossil T.V.F. black billiard with a silver banded military mount and a black ebonite tapered stem. My favorite pipe. It'll be a while before I post Norton the Nosey news, but when I do, I'll enclose a photo of the little fella so you won't miss it. He's going well.
