Morning MisterBadger,

Yes, he’s a good looking ram. He’s a Katahdin breed. I chose this breed for the meat quality and ease of care. Since they’re a hair breed, they shed their winter coat every year in the late Spring. No horns to debud and no tails to dock. I trim the breeder ewes hooves twice a year.
“Romeo’s” coat is shorter on his sides due to rubbing on the fences to scratch. We’ve had a very odd, warm fall. I think he’s delayed in growing a thicker coat and he’s feeling “hot” when it’s 50 degrees F and he’s chasing ewes around.😉 He broke a wooden fence post at ground level a few days ago letting the chickens out of there run. I saw him head butting a sprinkler riser yesterday.
If the girls are not interested in him he gets board. 🤨

Well, @Fralphog, one lives and learns. My ignorance of American breeds is, as you've now learned, shocking. Now I know of one, at least. Interestingly varied ancestry they have, I found when I looked them up on the web. On the Farm we have a small flock of a couple of dozen Shropshire Down sheep, a dual-purpose breed of mostly Welsh ancestry but it is their wool that made Marches farmers - and manufacturers of Welsh flannel - rich in the 19thC. It was competition from Australian Merino imports in the 20thC that turned the Shropshire into what is now a rare breed - but we do get a government grant for raising them :)

MisterBadger,
I think the many and varied breeds is quite interesting.
I thoroughly enjoy your posts- especially the pictures of the farm and it’s happenings.

A glorious after-dinner smoke of G&H Dark Plug, in a MM. Pairs well with a glass of porter: a good, old-fashioned combination. I find the Dark Plug pretty uncomplicated but so full-on, mouth-filling and flavourful I am minded to order more in quantity. It is one of Life's minor tragedies that Mrs. Badger absolutely detests the aroma. If she only smoked herself I am sure she would find it much pleasanter at first- than at second-hand.

What a beautiful day!! Especially appreciated after a few days of single digit cold!!
I got a lot accomplished today and even did a bit of Christmas shopping.

To celebrate, mid-day I asked myself, "What would compliment this wonderful day?"
The answer was some Wessex Gold Brick Virginia cube-cut and smoked in my Roush Poker. I have to say that the marriage of those two things was a pure delight to behold. @Briarcutter , I sure said some nice things about you while I enjoyed that pipe!

Then, after I fed the ponies, I kicked back with a bit of Country Squire, Tombigbee in a Bones nosewarmer. I had a bit of scotch to add to the moment....
