Starting to Get Obsessed

No sooner had the ranch finally started to dry out that I found myself battening down the hatches once again. Therefore, I chose something special for what might have been my final smoke of the year, the last of a jar of Drew Estate Grand Central in my aromatic pipe, a Savinelli Miele 641 KS smooth bent apple. Got one more tin left (translation: TinBids here I come!), but I've got several other new-to-me aromatics to try first. 9/10

Bird report: Dark-eyed junco, California towhee, House finch, California scrub-jay, California quail, Chipping sparrow, Oak titmouse, White-crowned sparrow, Steller's jay, Common raven (got the mouse carcass I left for it!), Mountain chickadee, White-breasted nuthatch, Northern flicker, and Spotted towhee.

I know I joke around on here a lot, but in all seriousness, 2025 was a very mixed year for me, and weighted toward the 👎 side, for sure. Wishing everyone here a better and brighter 2026! 🥂 🙏
I hope your 2026 kicks butt and may the TinBids odds be ever in your favor!

On the menu for my first smoke of the last day of the year is a blend I didn’t care for much in 2024. Thankfully, a few forum members suggested I jar it up and revisit it later. When I did earlier this year, OJK Brown Label finally clicked. That one moment sent me down a fun rabbit hole of trying other Burley-based blends, and along the way I found a deep appreciation for tobaccos I might have otherwise written off.

I bring this up because I truly value the collective knowledge this community shares. My pipe journey wouldn’t be where it is today without all of you. I’m looking forward to what 2026 brings, and I wish you all a very Happy New Year filled with satisfying smokes ✨😚💨

Did a set of walking reps on this cold and windy day, and am not far from finishing this bowl of year 2016 D&R Three Sails in a slight bent black pattern etched 1977 Lorenzo Lorsan Sigma level top billiard with a gray swirl acrylic saddle stem. Tomato the Brave kept coming up to me when I got near the house and he got a quick head rub each time, He followed me to the house to eat again, and is now playing with a catnip sock. The others are still outside.

Enjoyed a tasty lunch, and am smoking year 2020 Watch City Rouxgaroux in a smooth medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY Natural 4AB No. 6/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Gold Star Hawaiian Kona Extra Fancy, neat, is my drink. Watching The American Masters episode of Dick Van Dyke.

Top o' the mornin' and a Happy New Year to you all. :)

Took a nylon-bristled PC to the stem of the "Whistling Witch" to try to nudge any burrs out. It's a bit better. Did not attempt attaching the PC to a hand drill, as someone suggested elsewhere. Don't think that would have worked well with a curved stem.

I do enjoy this tobacco. Tried C&D's Berry Good yesterday. That one... not so much. Weird; "off." It was bulk. Some reviewers had the same interpretations and reactions that I did. Even a self-avowed Burley-lover did not enjoy it. Wonder if it's better in a can?

Have ordered a bunch of different Lakelands to try. Will see what they're like when compared to the Gawith Hoggarth Dark Flake 'A' I like so much. The descriptions from others vary so widely... I think it's just something I'll have to experience for myself.

Still looking for a Brigham Voyageur 165. Having exhausted my search of all US sources, am now checking around Canada.

Hope you enjoy this evening, and tomorrow, and I'm wishing you the best in 2026!
