My Ravenwood order arrived today. They included a sample of their Swiftcurrent Lake blend. So, I figured 'why not?' and loaded up the MM Cobbit Shire and fired it up.
WOW! Seriously, this stuff tastes fantastic!
This is a burley forward blend, and it has a very distinct nutty/buttery note with a bit of tang and floral in the background. It is sweet to a pleasant degree and remains so throughout the bowl. As the bowl comes together there developed a bit of baking spices and a cake-like breadiness that is enhanced by the creaminess of the black cavandish. No bite to it at all.
Retrohaling this stuff is glorious! Thick clouds of smoke and the nuances of the blend really come out.
It burned cool and consistently and has a pleasant aftertaste. This could easily be an all-day smoke.
I'm going to buy this stuff by the pound. If the other blends turn out to be this good, I might be in trouble!

Now smoking 1970s Heine's Blend in a cheap, undated, unbranded slight bent smooth dark brown short shank Made in France Los Alton VBF billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Fed all the ferals.

Is the shank split and almost glued back together, or is that a crack and a massive fill? What's this pipe's story?
17’ Skiff. This era Skiff is one of the best Oriental forward blends I have in my arsenal. There is a cognac topping on it that is just perfect. I wish they still did that, but the new stuff is awesome as well.
Didn't get a picture but I had a bowl of Lane BLWB in my MM Country Gentleman. I usually smoke stuff with Latakia and / or Perique but there's a satisfying simplicity in BLWB that's hard to beat.
G.L. Pease Union Square in an AKB meerschaum for me tonight. I've been on the hunt for a solid readily available red Virginia dominant blend this year, and while I still need to try C&D Opening Night and Interlude, I am pretty darn happy with Union Square!

Passing the first third of this bowl of year 2016 Wilke #10 in a smooth straight brown 1949 Yello-Bole KBB Century Model Lovat with a nickel band accent on the black vulcanite saddle stem. Haven't smoked his pipe lately, but it'll host this blend for a while.
It's a fill. A friend gave me a few unsmoked, mostly unbranded French pipes, and that is one of them. While I haven't smoked all of them, the ones in use have been pretty good smokers.
HU Nyala in a Georg Jensen. 
For my last smoke of the night tonight I'm having Gawith Hoggarth Dark Flake Aromatic in my trusty old Dr. Grabow Lark.
Just finished smoking year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a late '80s, early 90s small bend medium brown smooth, unbranded Nording pot with a couple of small rusticated spots, an amber colored acrylic ferrule and tapered stem in the military mount style. Tomato the Brave is by my side.
Now smoking year 2018 D&R Windsail in a 2018 full bend smooth natural Peterson Sherlock Holmes Lestrade with a silver band and a black vulcanite saddle p-lip stem. Watching Bob Costas interview Bob Gibson and Tim McCarver. Gibson is my all time favorite pitcher. I got to see him pitch in person once. It was unforgettable.
