Of all the pipe collections to covet, I’d have to say that yours appeals most in style & substance. Your use of good hearty classic blends in old world pipes with glorious patina make me think of simpler times. Thanks!?☕

Samuel Lyons c/o Imperial Tobacco Co.
The mark is often seen on Civic pipes.
I ought to look into why the mark appears twice.

Thank you so much for the information . . . you're a star.
If you have time I'd really appreciate it if you could look again in your marvellous book for any details of the pipe maker B.C in a horizontal diamond and for the maker's mark on the mount which looks to me to read E.I G.I H.J but as the initials are quite badly rubbed they could well be E.I G.I H.J.I

As I was busy with other matters and consequently away from pipes from the late 1980s till the mid 2000s I missed the reference book and was wondering if it's still available to buy as it looks like an invaluable resource to help me date my older briars.

Yes I'm very happy to be among like-minded individuals here on this forum, many of whom I consider dear personal friends. I ought to add,and it's difficult to do sometimes as is the case with "SL" but it's a safe idea to research the name further just to add that little extra reassurance.

Now, about this current mark: these are quite small. Is it a London assay mark? The books are arranged by assay office. I own Chester, and Sheffield through 1907, and I walk a short walk from work to the University library to consult the London books. To my knowledge a Birmingham book has not been made. If it London I can take a little walk on Monday and report back. Cheers!

Edit: occasionally London firms will register in Chester and appear in the book but that was not the case this time. I'll reference the London edition on Monday, if those are in fact London marks. Can't quite make them out.
