Year 2012 GL Pease Cairo in an IMP Meer. Age has done wonders. There is a unique tropical fruitiness, pineapple and passion fruit with a pleasant tartness. Then the complex spices, wood, and pepper come swirling in. The wood and spice take over with bitterness joining in at the end. A lively and interesting smoke that invites your attention. I can’t wait to try other aged blends in this genre. IMG_5166.jpeg

All the "Chess" pipes had plateau rims. I was told by several codgers that many smokers hated plateau rims, so they would "top" the pipe to improve it.
At a Pipe Club Meeting couple months back, I'd brought two of my Stanwell's ... a 62 & a 64. They were universally admired. A Club Brother had a Nording, also admired. Part of the admiration shown that night was for the plateau rims, just how "cool" they were.
I mentioned your (above) point, that I'd heard of the situation where somebody sanded off a plateau rim, making it smooth. The Club Brothers were all uniformly horrified, shaking their heads in disgust, like "WHY would somebody ruin such a fine part of a wonderful pipe?"
To me, that would be tantamount to painting over a beautiful Straight Grain or Birdseye. Whatever ...

As a grievous violation of propriety, I'm reminded of something out of a Western:
"We're going to give him a fair trial, then we're going to take him out & hang him!"

MacBaren Navy Flake from 2014 in a Mauro Armellini bent billiard. Did a much needed purge of some bulk blends I haven't smoked in years and didn't plan on revisiting. I feel like I rushed into cellaring and ended up with a lot of stuff that I didn't really like. Now, 7 or so years of smoking and cellaring, I feel like ive got a slightly better handle on things.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and sugar snap peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. It's 50/50 whether or not I can go off my diet tomorrow. I've passed the last third of a bowl left of year 2014 FVF in a straight smooth brown year 1923 Dunhill A billiard 60 patent March 9.15 with a tapered black vulcanite stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink. Tomato the Brave came in to eat, and is still in the kitchen. When I took down the trash and recycle cans to the street, Daisy the Feral Princess followed me. She always does that. More often than that, Tomato the Brave and Harry the Hairy will, too, although Harry will stay a few feet away because he's a bit skittish. The Braves are not only getting slaughtered by the Phillies, but Kyle Schwarber has hit four homers in this game. This is the fourth time I have seen a game when that happened. It's only happened nineteen times in MLB history. A rarer feat than a perfect game.
