Had a fantastic weekend up in northern Minnesota up on the Iron Range and stayed incognito from the interwebs. Had a three day stay at my cousin and her husbands house on Vermillion Lake where we drank good beer, ate amazing food, and smoked a few good cigars, and so no pipes for me even though I brought a few. On Friday my cousin in law and I went to his range where he zeroed in his 300 Win Mag and I putzed around with a Ruger AR 556 I recently picked up. A nice little entry AR for me, as well as some other guns I brought. We shot pistols as well and it was overall a pretty good range day. The wildfire smoke was still present, but not as thick as it was the day before. I drive through Duluth and the smoke was so thick that looking down on the port, while driving over the Blatnik Bridge, it looked like heavy fog.

The next day we had ate breakfast then headed out to the pontoon where we lived up boat life for five hours. Very little smoke in the air and it was in the upper 70s with some puffy clouds in the sky. The hotdog boat was out but there was a line so we didn’t get any, but we had a great time, even the little pupper. I didn’t realize we were about 25 miles from Canada 1754320766184.png

Cigar Saturday. Been aging these Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure #2s for 6 years now. Bought them in the Frankfort airport for $14 a stick. They run in the $40s here in Canada because of our insane government. I would put this cigar up against anything. So damn good with a black coffee.

Now Aug 4th ... getting kind of a late start on contributing a post, but "Better Late Than ---".
Began Aug with an idea to give some attention to pipes in the racks that I haven't smoked for a while.
Inspiration for the thought is credited to Jim, as he will post a pic of a pipe with a mention that it's one he hasn't smoked in quite a while. NOTE: Inspirational thoughts originated from Jim are always gold (!!!).

Mac Baren Roll Cake in an Edwards Bent Bulldog ... classic Algerian briar. Thinking that if I dribbled a bit of Perique into the Roll Cake, I might have the equivalent of Royal Twist. Hmm ...

I am reveling in this cool snap. Can't get enough of it!
This morning, I thought I'd pull out one of my rarely used pipes. This is the one I had commissioned back when I was a cavalry reenactor. I'll post a couple of shots of the sides so you can see some of the carving and battle honors that the maker inscribed..... I loaded it with some C & D Palmetto Balkan. Delicious......

Part way through this bowl of year 2024 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Fed my cats, and will check on the ferals in a couple of minutes. Ice water and bergs is my drink.
