Vikings at Cromford Mill & Matlock Bath Pirate Mutiny this weekend; Orlik Golden Sliced, Cannon Plug & Kendal Flake in my clays today. Jason the blacksmith lit my clay pipe with an ember from his forge! Found a broken clay pipe stem at the Fishpond pub in Matlock Bath - it must have belonged to one of the Pirates.
Got bought a pint of real ale in Matlock Bath:
Solani Aged 660 in this small clay.View attachment 327728
@samuelgawith01 Looks a nice clay; the Dragon's Claw clay is perfect for smoking dragonweed:)

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and snow peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. I've a third of a bowl left of year 2018 Solani 633 in a straight 1954 patent Dunhill 148 Group 3 black shell bulldog made for the France market with a black saddle vulcanite stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink.

Starting to Get Obsessed
Looks like a Peterson 302 but the cap on the shank being flat and the regular push tenon are throwing me off. Is that what it is?
What a great eye you have! I thought of it as a Peterson 302 for 20+ years until your comment. Checking, it is a Rovera Curva Bent Apple SYSTEM PIPE with a P-Lip. I recall being very happy with a recently (finally) broken-in 302 in the early 1990s, and was recently attracted to Rovera, which was doing something with the Ardor brand at the time, for rumored briar quality. I saw this pipe as leveraging all three names in one pipe for my growing assortment, but eventually associated it completely with Peterson's system pipes for obvious reasons. The break-in was fast and painless, compared to the Peterson 302 blast "twin" i had grown fond of. Thank you for bringing all this back to me 30 years later. Sorry for rambling.

Passing the first third of this bowl of year 2018 Mac Baren HH Burley Flake in a straight smooth dark brown 1918 Pre-Republic Peterson’s Dublin 2 apple with a silver band and a tapered black vulcanite p-lip stem. While looking for something else, I found the complete DVD set of The Flintstones that, along with pipes and other DVDs, I inherited when my friend Donald passed away in 2010. So, I thought we'd watch the first couple of episodes with the original openings and closings.

Wifey took the mustang on a multi-mile ride today, so I had some time after doing the usual ranch chores, and figured I'd compare Mac Baren Vanilla Flake to the loose cut I just finished last week, in the Al Pascia meer of course. Seems noticeably stronger on the vanilla than its rubbed out relative, but that could simply be a function of age (the blend, not me, although 40 is right around the corner, for whatever that's worth). I have no shortage of vanilla aromatics in the cellar these days, but I'm glad to have 50g of this one to enjoy for a while. 8/10

Bird report: California scrub-jay, House finch, Steller's jay, California towhee, American crow, Cooper's hawk, Spotted towhee, Oak titmouse, Northern flicker, Vaux's swift, and Western bluebird. Also saw a small bird that I think is some kind of vireo. Gotta ask the local ornithologist about this one...I hate mysteries!

Wishing everyone a good week.
