My final BBB smoke of the day is C&D Derringer in a 1930s straight smooth dark brown BBB Highest Grade 64 chubby billiard with a bone condenser and a tapered black vulcanite stem. First time smoking this pipe. Ice water and bergs is my drink. I DVR'd the Braves-Mets game, so I'm watching that now.
Pre-dinner smoke of Country Squire P.S. Blend (Latakia) in a 1969-1971 Peterson Kapmeer 999 --- I was just telling someone that I think the Peterson 999 should have won a design award for a perfectly balanced and shaped pipe (IMHO). Great smoke !
Nature report: 3 inch black burrowing beetle on the back porch cooling off but no work to do as I am not dead yet (that I know of ... YOMV ! ).
Don't really need an excuse to smoke this beauty but the Tsuge thread someone started this weekend is the perfection opportunity. Smoking a bowl of cube-cut 2012 Christmas Cheer in this mesmerizing Ikebana by Fukuda san:
Evening pipe(s): Started off with HU Haymaker in my bones bent apple. Made it half way and decided to pull out of it. Much more harsh than I anticipated. Given, I know I am still figuring this out, but it seemed like an attribute of the blend. I believe a youtuber I saw today who reviewed it stated it is very "in your face". I will have to play about with it and see if I can break it.
I ended up loading my no-name home depot bucket of a pipe with Mac Baren Scottish Mixture. That is just a good standard for me. However, I have found that the retrohale is not as desirable. It also got pretty hot. Just one of those nights where it was more of a struggle to pipe.
Relaxing after a wonderful salad, wild caught catfish and snow peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm nearing the half way mark on this bowl of Seattle Pipe Club Hogshead plug in a medium bend, smooth brown 1950s Peterson 999 Dublin chubby Rhodesian with a tapered black vulcanite p-lip stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Watching the Dodgers-Padres game. Decided to have a night of Petersons.
For the nic-hit, post dinner, Capstan Blue flake in a Pioneer Meerschaum full bent egg (Tanzanian Block meerschaum) I bought in the 80's, rusticated with smooth shield panels on two sides, left and right.
