I’ll be off the WAYS thread for a while. I’m having lumbar fusion surgery on 5/21. I will have several bone grafts and evidently nicotine inhibits their healing. I won’t be smoking for a month before and at least 3 months after. A guy needs his lower back to work right and not hurt. I’ll be around otherwise.
I will pray for a successful surgery and speedy recovery for you my good man.

Sam's Flake in my Viprati Sabbiata on this very fine afternoon. Decided to chance if an old bottle was still good..cork was sound at top but crumbled before could get out (expected). Decanted and color good, smell good.. yes! Still wine! It went The Distance! Chances are it turns by the second glass, but these sips are soft and fine. 👍

A quarter of the way through this bowl from a freshly opened jar of Briarworks Smokehouse in a 1960s Austrian meerschaum bent apple with a tapered yellow stem. This goes on sale tomorrow at 6 p.m. EST. I just got this for review today, and will work to get a review out before it goes on sale.

Best wishes for your upcoming ordeal. I'll be thinking of you with folded hands. Godspeed, my good man.

Back from Vanderhoof, where I spent the last two days of Triduum with friends. On returning, I had a most interesting and excellent smoke. Seems I've been eating a lot of crow lately, with premature judgments. Same here but in a positive way.

Late last night, I took out my Falcon Bent with the Bantam bowl, and loaded it with what I had left of Dunhill's Nightcap in the baggie that contained about two bowlfuls that my buddy Stu had given me. I proceeded to have one of the best smokes I've ever had, and certainly the best in the Falcon, which is saying a lot because the pipe has been a stellar performer with English style tobaccos especially. It's my go-to pipe for two tobaccos, now three. Skippable Drivel below the picture.

Skippable Drivel:
Now the problem is not the tobacco or the pipe, but my statement (paraphrased) that I loved the tobacco but couldn't understand why it was called Nightcap? Like, who'd smoke something like this at night, except the English who are a weird breed anyways.

Well, I'm half English myself, so maybe that comes out only at night - I dunno. But all's well that ends well. You can see that the tin is still sealed. It won't be for long. I did snag a tin of it from our Reserve friends in Ontario, and if there is still some available at month's end, I'll do it again.

It reminds me in some ways of Mad Fiddler - contains Orientals, Virginias and Perique, and is a very good backup to MF, along with Bourbon Blue which also contains Orientals and Perique. That's given me more ideas, given the Orientals that I'm growing and beginning to harvest.

I'll go away now. 😁 puffy
