86 degrees here in Missouri so I turned on the air conditioner in my garage and discovered a rosewood coffin shaped Queen City Titusville three blade whittler in a little box of camera stuff. Christmas in April!

My Uhle’s Billiard is full of Carter Hall and this is truly a magically good pipe, whatever briar Uhle carved it from. It’s coloring oxblood.

A BIT OF CANINE NOSTALGIA: Ricoh passed yesterday at 11:10 AM, two days later than I figured.
Oh yeah . . . . celebrated his passing with my best cigar. Seemed appropriate.
gord - I'm sorry for your loss (!!!). Reading about Ricoh's final moments & your companionship left me choked up & a bit misty eyed ... and not too proud to say so, as it brought back personal memories. 😥
If you've never seen this:
The "Rainbow Bridge" is a popular term used in pet loss literature and grief support circles, referring to a place where pets are believed to go after death and where their owners hope to be reunited. It's often visualized as a beautiful meadow or paradise, where pets wait for their owners to join them.
The Rainbow Bridge Poem:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

Picking some brains here . . . I placed an order for some of my favourite cheap cigars today, from our duty free Mohawk source, and they happened to get some private stock of Hearth & Home Magnum Opus for $52.00 a tin. I read the profile and it appealed to me. So I scooped two tins in addition to my stogies, as that's a very good price for a 50 gram tin of tobacco up here.

Never heard of it before. Not surprised, because there are a lot of things I don't know. Can you who know this tobacco give me a heads up on what I might expect? Thanks.

Gord, have you tried the Magnum Opus? I think if like other H&H Balkan style blends, like Black House, you’ll like It. It’s been awhile since I tried it, but I remember it being pretty good big Balkan.
Thank you for the nice posts about your buddy. Sorry for your loss. It sounds like he had a very good life with you.

A third of the way through this bowl of year 2021 unreleased Sutliff Black Virginia Flake in a late 80's, early 90s James Upshall P DS Tilshead England Made By Hand L185 Canadian with a silver band and a tapered black vulcanite stem. Abner the Eager was waiting on me when I went out to walk, so I let him, and he ate plenty.

No, it hasn't arrived yet. But the blurb on the site said it contains Latakia, Orientals, Virginias, and Burleys. And it also says that it's fairly tough, not a "beginners" tobacco. To me that indicates that it's like a Balkan blend. Similar to Bengal Slices and Brigham English Mix. Mad Fiddler and Bourbon Bleu depend on Perique for their "hit" and also they contain Virginias, but both of them are hardly pussycats either. I'm hoping for something fairly solid but not brutal. In the same ballpark as those I've mentiioned. Seven or eights, not nine or tens.

I've gone more towards Virginias rather than Burleys lately. I know Burleys are higher in the N bomb, but I find they cause me more tongue bite than Virginias, even though others find the opposite. Physiologies do differ.

I'll find out soon enough, but from what I've heard Magnum Opus should take a bit of pressure off my favourite stalwarts by spreading the solidity wealth. I'm looking forward to getting them, and the solo tin of Nightcap I also ordered.

That'll be it for awhile . . . need to buy groceries instead of tobacco for a bit, eh? I'll keep the forum posted for my reactions. Should be here by Thursday.

PS - Thanks for your comments about my little buddy. Yeah, he's being buried 3 feet down, in my back 40 tomorrow, all cemented in his favourite flip-top camping cooler he was often hiding out in, (or locked in!! :ROFLMAO:- one or t'other ). Yeah, we had quite the life together - will miss him but there is also relief there, now that it's over.
