For ashdigger:
Interesting 1911 story ... Summer after High School graduation, my friend Dan (somehow) obtained an older 1911 (not the 1911A1) in caliber .45ACP. We had loads of fun at an old dump site (now a School location), where we brought our .22's & spent hours shooting up tons of cans, bottles & other trash. We'd bring sandwiches & water, making it a great afternoon. There was an old refrigerator there, so we'd sit across the way, distance about 175 yards, and fire those 230 grain jacketed shells at it. Didn't take long for us to "get the range", then listen to those heavy slugs WHACK into that old fridge. GREAT FUN (!!!). That 1911, being dirty, didn't fully eject after each shot, so we'd simply jack the slide for a new round. NOTE: We'd fire it from a sitting position ... while munching our sandwiches ... with our arms resting on our knees. No standing position with one arm at that distance (!).
Following Winter, I enlisted in the US Army, spent about 2 months in Basic Training, then about 2 months in AIT Light Weapons Infantry (11B10) with training on the M14 Automatic Rifle, M79 Grenade Launcher, M60 Machine Gun, .50 caliber Machine Gun PLUS the 1911A1.
Upon returning home for 10 days leave before my next assignment, I was invited over for dinner at his house. After dinner, we moved to the garage. I asked to bring out the 1911 saying "Dan, WATCH THIS." I completely field stripped it in less than a minute into the 9 pieces. Dan's eyes bugged out, nearly popping out of his head, astounded, blurting out "WHAT?". I showed him how I could reassemble it in, also, less than a minute.

Subsequently, he wrote to me telling me how he was able to thoroughly clean it, restoring its ejection function.
Several years later, I bought a Llama .22 1911 style. It field stripped exactly the same way.
Like some of the pipes I've owned, I cannot explain why I didn't keep it. It was also GREAT FUN shooting this amazing little .22, a real fun plinker.
