Almost a third of the way through this bowl of Wilke No. 515 in a smooth dark medium bend 2021 Peterson Heritage Brown POTY 4AB No. 45/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Dunno if I'll have another smoke before bed time or not since I have feral feeding to do, and baseball box scores to read.

For LeifErikson:
If I had to pick one pipe shape only for the rest of my life (a "Desert Island" pipe), I might very well pick the Savinelli 626 ... mine being the Antique Shell finish. Yup, I might pick the 626 even over my Stanwell 63's & my Pete System Standards.

I’m right there with you. It’s one of my absolute favorite pipe shapes. It’s between the 626 bent apple or the 207 straight apple from Savinelli.

Last post for a few days. Sad news . . . my little buddy Ricoh is not going to make it through the day. He hasn't eaten for 4 days, and hasn't taken water for three. 23 years old, totally blind and deaf for the past 5 years, and just lying at my feet now, barely breathing. He has displayed more courage than most people I've ever known, and will miss him. No replacement planned either. He's one of a kind. No regrets, either. It's his time.

Going to specialist to schedule hernia operation presently, and leaving for Vanderhoof tomorrow or Thursday, to take in Triduum with a family there who has invited me, interestingly the family that gave me my mutt when he was six years old, and am packing my travel kit now, Ricoh is sleeping peacefully and will probably and mercifully not wake up. Other wonderful event is watching one of my former very beautiful ex-students being Baptised and Confirmed during the Triduum . . . her husband is next, and I'm sure we'll share a few pipefuls (he's one of the scoundrels that got me into the labyrinth . . . . . :ROFLMAO: )

Will continue my series of interesting (to me, anyways) smokes when I return after Easter Sunday. Leaving you with one of those special smokes as of late, a memorable and excellent two hour puff with my best long smoker, my Savinelli Avorio, and one of my favorite (still can't get used to the American spelling but I'll try; "favourite" just looks right lol) cherry aromatics, TobaccoBarn's Bing Cherry. No forgettable drivel today methinks.

My deepest condolences, Gord. You have given your furry friend a long life full of love and joy I’m sure. God bless the two of you.

Now smoking some Condor RR in the nameless prince. I've searched every corner of pipedia and have been unable to shed any light at all on this pipe, so I figure it's time to give up on the realm of fact. @Briar Lee would you do me the honour of coming up with discovering an origin story for it?

Having dried out this packet of Condor I'm finding I like it much better nowIMG_20250409_102600.jpg

For ashdigger:
Interesting 1911 story ... Summer after High School graduation, my friend Dan (somehow) obtained an older 1911 (not the 1911A1) in caliber .45ACP. We had loads of fun at an old dump site (now a School location), where we brought our .22's & spent hours shooting up tons of cans, bottles & other trash. We'd bring sandwiches & water, making it a great afternoon. There was an old refrigerator there, so we'd sit across the way, distance about 175 yards, and fire those 230 grain jacketed shells at it. Didn't take long for us to "get the range", then listen to those heavy slugs WHACK into that old fridge. GREAT FUN (!!!). That 1911, being dirty, didn't fully eject after each shot, so we'd simply jack the slide for a new round. NOTE: We'd fire it from a sitting position ... while munching our sandwiches ... with our arms resting on our knees. No standing position with one arm at that distance (!).

Following Winter, I enlisted in the US Army, spent about 2 months in Basic Training, then about 2 months in AIT Light Weapons Infantry (11B10) with training on the M14 Automatic Rifle, M79 Grenade Launcher, M60 Machine Gun, .50 caliber Machine Gun PLUS the 1911A1.

Upon returning home for 10 days leave before my next assignment, I was invited over for dinner at his house. After dinner, we moved to the garage. I asked to bring out the 1911 saying "Dan, WATCH THIS." I completely field stripped it in less than a minute into the 9 pieces. Dan's eyes bugged out, nearly popping out of his head, astounded, blurting out "WHAT?". I showed him how I could reassemble it in, also, less than a minute. :ROFLMAO:
Subsequently, he wrote to me telling me how he was able to thoroughly clean it, restoring its ejection function.

Several years later, I bought a Llama .22 1911 style. It field stripped exactly the same way.
Like some of the pipes I've owned, I cannot explain why I didn't keep it. It was also GREAT FUN shooting this amazing little .22, a real fun plinker.

So is it ironic, or intentional, that your pictured 1911 has an external extractor? Can’t help but ask, lol.

Prince Albert in a darkly colored Marxman square panel Benchmade A $5 grade. Any early hand carved Benchmade or Jumbo was a hand cut, hand made, and hand polished pipe, and the $5 size has the most high condition survivors. Most of the lower grades of Mell-o and below were likely smoked up and tossed.

They look like dog turds after a week of smoking, but well made, dynamite good smoking dog turds.

Half and Half in a small unbranded Marxman second (or lunch box special or excellent counterfeit)

Before 1940 Algeria supplied most of the briar used, and this is obviously Algerian.

But Marx selected a certain grade, and oil cured and polished it by certain methods, and they were hand carved to certain patterns, that a Marxman has a distinct look. This little one looks very, very Marxy.:)
