Finally dug into the 2023 can of Peretti 52 again and so glad I did! In the Mastro de Paja 3AL Egg with morning coffee.

A beautiful pipe. I take note of a pipe that will be smoked at a downward angle, with the bowl hanging around 45 degrees or so. Reason: hat's my preferred position when I light up and smoke. This one is especially beautiful aesthetically as well. And looks like it would fit the hand beautifully, too.

Now smoking year 2020 Watch City Rouxgaroux in a smooth medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY Natural 4AB No. 6/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Fed my cats, and Harry the Hairy. Daisy the Feral Princess wasn't very hungry. Because it's been raining most of the morning, I didn't expect to see Tomato the Brave or Abner the Eager. It's supposed to rain all day and evening, so no walks for me today.

Interesting smoke from last night. About my favourite tobacco, C&D Mad Fiddler, and it's wonderful dedicated pipe, the Ropp J16. Had the usual superb smoke with this combination, but didn't particularly enjoy it as I usually do.

I ruminated on the reason during the smoke, and came to the conclusion that I really don't like a bold tobacco in the evenings. Now, MF is not really that potent, and I'll put it between 6-7 on the toughness scale. A few nights ago, I smoked a sample given to me of Nightcap, which I found to be one of the toughest, most hardass fodders I've ever smoked. The only thing I've got in my larder that is tougher is TobaccoBarn's "Rockwell", and it's about the same as Nightcap. Love 'em both by the way. I'll give it a 8.5, allowing leeway for tobaccos that I've not experienced to be 9's or above. I was given examples of other tough guys by others, so I'll bow to their experience.

Ignorable Drivel follows after the picture.

Ignorable Drivel: It seems to me an anomaly that a "Nightcap" should be a headbanger. Most people I know prefer a milder more aromatic tobacco in the evenings. I like such aromatics as Smoker's Pride Cherry or Vanilla Cavendish, SWR, TobaccoBarn's Cimmeron or Black Velvet, Autumn Evening, or even a very mild English like Presbyterian Mixture, or a mild Oriental like Steamworks. And often, maybe four or five times a month, I'll take out my largest pipes and stoke them full of one of these, and enjoy it to the maximum length I can get.

Yet, it seems to be a tradition, especially amongst the English, to assault one's senses before retiring into dreamland. Hence Nightcap or other potent pleasures similarly named.

It's at times like this I'm very glad that my half English side has never been dominant, being far more Polish in nature. I also don't smoke for about two hours after I eat. Kills the smoke for me.

I'd really appreciate some comments on this because, frankly, I just don't get it. Murkey. (that's French for thanks.) :)

The last couple days I've been smoking St Bruno that I bought and jarred in Nov 2024.
This is NOT the St Bruno I remember from the early 2000s.
Much less topping and much more plain tobacco flavor.
It's still very good and a stout blend.
I jarred up 5 pouches in November.
I'll see how it goes over the next few years.

I actually like Today’s St Bruno better than the 80’s-90’s version that I remember. Maybe it’s changed, maybe my memory has faltered but it’s a lot more enjoyable.

Enjoyed a tasty lunch, and am smoking year 2020 D&R Raccoon’s Delight in my very reliable smooth straight post-1938 pre-Republic Peterson Sterling Canadian 263 with a sterling silver band and a tapered black vulcanite p-lip stem. Gold Star Yemen Mocha High Grown, neat, is my drink. Been watching the Yankees-Tigers game. They moved the time from a night game to a day game because of the weather. It snowed the first two innings, but stopped in the third. Going to listen as I work on four estate pipes that are taking a bit of my time to get to neutral. Getting 50-60 years of smoking out of a pipe isn't always easy. Tomato the Brave showed up to eat, and got some play time with me after I dried him off. And then, he wanted out even though it's still raining.
