Interesting smoke from last night. About my favourite tobacco,
C&D Mad Fiddler, and it's wonderful dedicated pipe, the
Ropp J16. Had the usual superb smoke with this combination, but didn't particularly enjoy it as I usually do.
I ruminated on the reason during the smoke, and came to the conclusion that I really don't like a bold tobacco in the evenings. Now, MF is not really that potent, and I'll put it between 6-7 on the toughness scale. A few nights ago, I smoked a sample given to me of
Nightcap, which I found to be one of the toughest, most hardass fodders I've ever smoked. The only thing I've got in my larder that is tougher is
TobaccoBarn's "Rockwell", and it's about the same as Nightcap. Love 'em both by the way. I'll give it a 8.5, allowing leeway for tobaccos that I've not experienced to be 9's or above. I was given examples of other tough guys by others, so I'll bow to their experience.
Ignorable Drivel follows after the picture.
Ignorable Drivel: It seems to me an anomaly that a "Nightcap" should be a headbanger. Most people I know prefer a milder more aromatic tobacco in the evenings. I like such aromatics as Smoker's Pride Cherry or Vanilla Cavendish, SWR, TobaccoBarn's Cimmeron or Black Velvet, Autumn Evening, or even a very mild English like Presbyterian Mixture, or a mild Oriental like Steamworks. And often, maybe four or five times a month, I'll take out my largest pipes and stoke them full of one of these, and enjoy it to the maximum length I can get.
Yet, it seems to be a tradition, especially amongst the English, to assault one's senses before retiring into dreamland. Hence Nightcap or other potent pleasures similarly named.
It's at times like this I'm very glad that my half English side has never been dominant, being far more Polish in nature. I also don't smoke for about two hours after I eat. Kills the smoke for me.
I'd really appreciate some comments on this because, frankly, I just don't get it. Murkey. (that's French for thanks.)
