Mac Baren Vanilla Roll Cake in a Peterson Shannon 06 classic billiard in the workspace. 7.8/10

Currently gliding in toward the finish line of another Scrabble round versus wifey. Leading 233 to 186 at the moment...I should be able to hold...but please don't make any wagers to that end!

Bird report: California scrub-jay, Steller's jay, American crow, Red-tailed hawk (being mercilessly harrassed by the former), White-crowned sparrow, House finch, Dark-eyed junco, Spotted towhee, California towhee, Mountain chickadee, Oak titmouse, White-breasted nuthatch, and Northern flicker.

Wishing everyone a pleasant week ahead!

Edit: Final score - 321 to 266. Getting all the high-point letters sure helped.

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, snapper and sugar snap peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm passing the first half of this bowl of year 2014 Dunhill Flake in a straight smooth 1960 Dunhill DR 137 group 4 root briar canted dublin with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink. The Braves have scored an amazing comeback and led the game 9-8 in the 8th. They were down 6-0 in the first.

I've come to the distinct conclusion that my throat just does not like Cornell & Diehl's tobacco, because every time I smoke one of their blends it always leaves me with a sore scratchy throat afterwards. Autumn Evening, Union Square, Sansepolcro, Briar Fox, Pegasus, Haunted Bookshop, and Old Joe Krantz all just pummel my throat like no other brand's blends ever do; and last night's tasting of Old Joe Krantz Blue left me with the worst sore throat that I've had in a good year or so all day long today.

So, in the interest of taking it easy while I wait for my throat to recover from the C&D beatdown I've just been smoking Carter Hall today. At the moment it's in a Country Gentleman.puffy

First bowl of April. The weather is beautiful in southern Wisconsin. 51 degrees, almost no wind, and sunny. The local spring peepers are making a racket.

Enjoying C&D Sunday Picnic in a large L’Anatra bent apple. Unfortunately our Doberman Dakota is no longer in my pictures, because we had to say goodbye to her on Wednesday.View attachment 301307

Late kick off for me since I usually post in the early morning hours. Smoking a mixture of Gawith Broken No:7 Flake from 2021 and the last of a 1 lb bag of Gawith Irish X black twist from 2013 that I received from a member on here as a gift in 2013. I have not seen that member around in ages. We did get together in CA about 9 years ago one evening for beers and a bowl. If you are reading this I hope you are well and enjoying life. My pipe de jour is this mid 1880s German meerschaum 'cutty' manufactured in Berlin with the manufacturers address in the case. The stem is a surprisingly robust piece of amber. The coloring of the shank is historical and something I cannot take any credit for but the pipe smokes divinely. Enjoy your Saturday night as I will be turning in shortly so I will see you all tomorrow.

Five Brothers in an estate Savinelli Punto Oro 111KS with a bamboo knuckle and vulcanite stem.

This is a great pipe I got on eBay. The person who owned this before probably ran a few hundred pounds of Captain Black through this pipe. I’m still trying to smoke out the ghost with Five Brothers’ help.

It is an honour to own such a beautiful pipe so well kept by an old codger who probably never smoked another blend.

We had some work done on the house- a couple of new bathrooms, arched some entryways, and every inch of the interior painted. We had to pack up everything, including my pipes. We just moved back in yesterday, most of my pipes are still boxed up. In addition to the paint my den got an overhead exhaust fan right above my chair. Last night was the test run and it worked fantastically well. I left the door open and my wife reported zero odor sitting around the corner. No more window fan for me!

Beautiful renovation. Love the dark green walls and the club chair. Glad the ceiling vent is working well. Enjoy!

Thank you! The chair is an old friend, bought it in 2008. Now that everything else is spiffed up all of a sudden it is looking a little worn, which I hadn’t noticed before. Then again so am I, so it’s a good match.

Close to finishing this bowl of year 2013 Stonehaven in a straight black sandblasted 1957 Barling Exel 249 Fossil T.V.F. black billiard with a silver banded military mount and a black ebonite tapered stem.

Sam the Scamp woke me up very early by banging at the door to get out of the bathroom. She has food there, but she prefers to eat out in the open. Here she is by my side as I watched The Adventures of Superman, which, along with Batman, led me to become a comic book artist.

This evening we broke out the playpen we just got, and placed it in the den. It’s the first time the babies have been out of the bathroom. Sam was very protective of them when Sleepy Suzy came by and hissed; nothing came of that. Sam nursed them, and when she finished, couldn’t wait to get out of the pen, and roam around the den, kitchen and by my side. She hissed and took a swipe at Suzy, who was upset and backed away. As protective as Sam rightfully is, I picked up Suzy and moved her away. Molly Danger just stared at them, and there was one hissing match before Molly walked away. Tomato the Brave saw them, and Sam freaked out, scaring off Tomato bad enough that he wanted to go outside. Haven’t seen much of Abner the Eager today. Daisy the Feral Princess has slept most of the day and night. None of the latter two have seen the littles, and for me, it’s just as well they didn’t right now.
