Melville's "Typee." There are many references to pipe smoking in this one (as in much of Melville), including some nice descriptions of women smoking pipes.

I'm also finishing up "The Book of Disquiet" by Fernando Pessoa (alas, a cigarette smoker). This one, for me, is very demanding, but amazing. With luck I will read it again.

Haha very true. The Turn of the Screw is one of the best ghost stories I've ever read, along with The Haunting. Both are so much more than just horror stories.
