The Recorded Books' version of Shelby Foote's Civil War novel Shiloh. I purchased this four-cassette edition at a library book sale a number of years ago and broke it out today to re-listen-tp while I waxed all of the pipes in my collection. The story is narrated by Foote and 12 other readers, and is both entrancing and thought-provoking. Looking back to that time, too many seem to have the mistaken view that the battles were orderly and romantic. The picture that Mr. Foote paints of this particular battle is anything but, but told by participants on both sides.
This is a good story, but to hear it told by capable readers makes it truly come alive, and I recommend it.
