I remember seeing them as a kid during the Synchronicity tour in ‘83, and later reunion tour in ‘07. Talented individually, but way better as a band IMO.

Yupe. Saw them at their last concert at Shea Stadium. 82, I think. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts opened for them. Great show that was.
When they'd returned from Berlin they had a very tight sound. Playing that sound to Americans absolutely transported by it and the fame and the money was, for them, I think, pure joy, which is amply heard in "Hard Days Night" and the rest of the songs they played at this point in their careers.
