After two bottles of Sapporo, Jameson Black Barrel with Sugar Free Pepsi. Listening to Simon and Garfunkel. 0453 and it's not making me any expensive than before.

It's a term I heard before. And I did experience it number of time when I was in my 20s. Especially on Friday nights at a local pub after first two pints of Guinness. Feeling expensive.

Just tried some homemade ginger beer I’d been fermenting - ginger, lime, yuzu, plenty of sugar. The verdict? Terrible. Going to have to try again, play with time and ratios. Oh well, half the fun is in the experimenting.

Shamelessly reappropriating that idiom. I’ve a friend who, when we visit the local vaguely scottish/irish/british/who knows what else pub, always gravitates towards the tasting menu and invariably ends up dropping a $50 or more on a dram of (admittedly good, but very marked up) scotch. Last time it was almost $100 on a bit of tequila. Definitely feeling expensive

I had a rummage around my bottle stash yesterday and found not one but two bottles of Jack Daniel's Single Barrel (plus 1 bottle of JD Single Barrel Rye). According to the label it was bottled in 2020 which tallies with my last purchase of it the same year, only now it's an extra £10 per bottle  .

Still, it's a great drink to wind down the day with.

The odds of winning more than one bottle in a state liquor lottery like this are probably pretty slim; Susan won a Stagg Jr. last year, but we both signed up for everything offered. Everything in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection is worth drinking. I would recommend signing up for everything (if you can cover the outlay on the unlikely chance you won several). The supply of these is so small, and the demand so high the last fifteen years, that many of those bottles would sell for 10x the retail price you’ve listed on today’s market.

I like economy liquors.

While I prefer Jim Beam (Black, in particular) over Jack Daniels, Gentleman Jack and JD's Single Barrel are good.

In the States, Ezra Brooks and Evan Williams are comparable to Jack and Jim but lower priced (and I believe 90 proof).
